My usual avatar is an 1896 art-nouveau poster advertising absinthe:

I first saw this image at a poster sale, and was immediately taken with it. I have a framed print on the wall in my apartment. And I drink absinthe.

My mom came over to my house for a visit and she saw the my computers wallpaper, which is the same I have for my avatar. When I asked her what she thought it was, she look at it and said "Is it a Whale" totally cracked me up.

Anyone can see it's a walrus.

What about the part where "time stands still when you're drifting?" It reminded me of the Ba'ku planet.

Is a movie... they have these things called "cinematic effects" to enhance the storytelling.

Well, in this case, these "cinematic effects" were so laughable, along with the actors trying to be so serious, that the movie was essentially over for me at this scene.

Well you're entitled to your opinion and to feel that way.

I suppose the magic warp speed buttons were better...

I'm an arctophile, so most of my avatars feature teddy bears. The current set are bears preparing for Christmas. So far they've done advent candles, wrapped gifts and this one is trimming the tree. There will be bears doing their nativity play soon.

So, it got me to thinking about avatars, so my question why did you choose the avatar that you use.

This commercial (YouTube, 20 seconds) -from before commercial television in these parts- has been a part of christmas my entire life.

Whenever nothing special is going on (Black & White Avatar Week, Sexy Guy Avatar Week, Gnome invasion etc.) I wear something from La Linea:

And the white graphic at the lower left hand corner of the avatar is supposed to be a graphic representation of a silicon molecule in TNG fashion. The font is Swiss 911 UCm BT

Well, to be ridiculously honest: At first glance I thought it meant Vote 'Si' to proposition 14 -but then, I didn't look to hard…

Most of my current (as in the last year or so) have been some variation of 'Trek + American Flag + Canadian Flag.

I'm a American married to a Canadian National and a 'Trek fan. Makes sense to me. Especially the current IDIC variation.
