Avatar: The Last Airbender

The Western Air Temple, The Firebending Masters, The Boiling Rock, Part 1

The Western Air Temple
This episode was pretty fun. Zuko was really hilarious in this, especially when he was talking to the frog. It is really cool to finally see Zuko finally interacting with the main group not as enemies. Toph is willing to give him a chance at least. Big Killer Man finally gets blown up. I thought he was a pretty disappointing villain, Zhao and Long Feng certainly were way better. This season has had a hard time with introducing new and memorable villains. Katara warns Zuko that she will be watching him, showing that she can be scary when she isn't being such a mom.

The Firebending Masters
The Avatar does Indiana Jones. It was okay. It was nice to finally get some good Zuko and Aang interaction. We also find out about how Firebending works and learn about the Sun Warrior tribe. The dragons were awesome. I wish they appeared on the show more.

The Boiling Rock, Part 1
The Avatar does Prison Break. Yay! Suki is back! Oh, yeah there was the rest of the episode... Nice to see Sokka and Zuko teaming up, the conversation about previous girlfriends made me chuckle, though they really should have taken the rest of the team with them to the prison. It was fun seeing them dress up as guards. I did like how Sokka wanted to stay at the very end to see if his dad was coming to the prison or not.

Yeah, everything's great from here out.

I will say I found Toph to be rather underused in S3, especially the back half. Which is unfortunate, because I can't really think of any episode I'd turn into a Toph episode - The Boiling Rock did a lot for Sokka and some secondaries,
The Southern Raiders was (IMO) brilliant as-is, and The Ember Island Players did good stuff for everybody.

They didn't really need to introduce any new characters at this point, though. Everyone had been established except for Ozai who we finally meet in the last season. Combustion Man was always just a bit role.

I wish the guy could talk. I'm not a big fan of big silent bad guys.

I'm not a big fan of Ozai right now. He seems very much like Emperor Palpatine to me, pure evil. I like my villains a little grey.

As I recall there wasn't a single lame duck episode after "Black Sun". It's all good here on in. And it was so great to finally have Zuko join the team, particularly since I'd been waiting for that to happen all through Season Two.

Yeah, I'm loving how Zuko interacts with the main four. The writers did a good job developing the character in season 2. I really miss seeing Iroh this season though.

Definitely the absolutely worst thing about Season Three is the loss of Mako, the voice actor of Iroh. I would have loved to have seen him join the gang alongside Zuko.

This is a great show. I watched it all the way through, and now I'm getting my girlfriend hooked. We just watched the first season together, and she loves it.

The Boiling Rock Part 2, The Southern Raiders, The Ember Island Players

The Boiling Rock Part 2
I liked all the team work in this episode. The fight on the gondola was awesome! Mai shows much how she loves Zuko by protecting him when the time came. I really loved that Mai and Ty Lee finally made a stand against Azula. The witch had it coming!

The Southern Raiders
This was a great episode. Katara deals with something that has been on her mind for a long time, by going after the man that killed her mother. Katara's mother was really beautiful in the flashback, and I was sad that she died. Katara couldn't go through with it obviously. I liked that the guy ended up with such a crappy life. Oh yeah, seeing Suki sneaking off to Sokka's tent in the middle of the night was great. Sokka is a pimp!

The Ember Island Players
The gang watches M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender Movie and sees how bad it is! Haha. I'm kidding of course. I thought it was cool how the poster Sokka held up was exactly the season one dvd cover! It was a funny episode. It was a recap episode done cleverly. My favorite parts were Aaang being played by a Peter Pan type girl, the Azula actress with the crappy costume, and Toph being played by a man that uses a sonic scream to see. Seems like Suki has joined up with the group, which is a plus.

Ember Island Trivia: Girl Aang is voiced by SNL's Rachel Dratch.

Toph being a big muscular guy is a reference to the character's original conception. It was only later they decided to make her into a little girl when they realized they needed more female characters in the show.
