Avatar: The Last Airbender

Man... This thread has kept my attention so much the last couple of days, that I think I've decided upon the next series I'm going to rewatch.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Just started working my way through Book 1. Couple discs in, have to say I'm eating my words. I dismissed this show when it was in 1st run, didn't think a NickToon could pull off as serious a story as the premise seemed to lean towards. But I have to say, it's a really good series. Soon as I get some scratch, I'm ordering Books 2 and 3.

I m big fan of brilliant Nickelodeon animation series made on Asian or chines Avatar the Last airbender. I have enjoyed everything which is related to Avatar the airbender and at the time of watch it's episodes, I always wonder, how the writers have penned down to such a captivating storyline of Avatar the last airbender episodes . I have enjoyed all episodes of it lot of time, but on my every weekend i looks so curious to entertain with Avatar the last airbender episodes again. As it's episodes are perfect blend of breathtaking action, science fiction and adventure.

The Fortuneteller, Bato of the Water Tribe. The Deserter, The Northern Air Temple, The Waterbending Master, The Siege of the North Part 1, The Siege of the North Part 2.

The Fortuneteller.
In this episode, our gang meets up with a Fortuneteller and tries to find out about their futures. It was pretty funny. They really wanted to show how much Aang likes Katara in this. Usually, I find romance in my shows to be boring, but I find Aang's crush on Katara to be cute. Nice message in the end about how the people shouldn't depend on the fortuneteller to solve all the problems. As always, the show manages to do another great action scene with Aang going up against the volcano.

Bato of the Water Tribe.
Katara and Soka meet up with their father's friend. I liked Soka's flashbacks to his father. Aang gets jealous and does something bad, but things turn out all right. We get another great action scene with Aang and Zuko. Also this show probably has my favorite scene in the show so far. Uncle Iroh is so funny.

After Zuko and hot bounty hunter chick are knocked down and paralyzed by the creature.
Zuko: "Uncle? I didn't see you get hit with the tongue."
Iroh: "Shh!"
Iroh smiles and pretends to be paralyzed as the hot bounty hunter chick is lying on top of him.

The Deserter
Aang tries to learn Firebending. This probably my favorite episode yet. We learn why Aang has to learn the different element bending in a certain order. Jeong Jeong is the first Firebender with the exception of Aang's previous incarnation, Avatar Roku, that isn't a bad guy. Glad to find out that all of them aren't dicks. I was really shocked when Katara got burned on accident because of how careless Aang was being, and how realistic Sokka acted. Admiral Zaho is really stepping up as the bad guy in this and we find out a little more about his past. This episode would make a great season finale, but there are still four more episodes to go.

The Northern Air Temple
I thought this episode was okay. Our gang arrives at a northern temple and find out that there are people living there. Aang understandably gets angry that the place has been changed so much because of those people. I liked that we get so many scenes in the sky. The final battle was also neat.

The Waterbending Master
They finally arrive at the Northern tribe! I'm so glad and surprised at how huge the place is. The animators certainly haven't been slacking off. Katara tries to learn waterbending, but is turned away because she is a girl. Katara gets angry and tries to fight back, and I couldn't help but root for her when she took on the Waterbending master. The fight was probably the best animated fight on the show so far. Meanwhile, Admiral Zhao sends pirates to kill Zuko. I was shocked when his ship exploded, and for a moment was worried that he was dead.

The Siege of the North Part 1, The Siege of the North Part 2

The siege is on and it's epic. The two parter felt like a movie, at times reminding me of the battles in the LOTR films. The fights were creative and the ship fleet was quite intimidating. Seeing the ice city being blown away piece by piece was quite a sight.

Aang traveling to the spirit realm to meet with the Face Stealer for help was creepy. The Face Stealer itself reminded me of some of the demons on Inuyasha.

Sokka's storyline was Princess Yue was good. It ended the only way it could have. I hope that Suki, the girl that Sokka kissed in season 1, will come back and be a reoccurring character or something. I just don't want all of Sokka's romantic interests to all have horrible ends.

I liked how Zuko's season one storyline concluded. He will probably be much more of an enemy of the Fire Nation now, he doesn't even have any soldiers anymore and the only person he can trust is his uncle, and must find some other way to live. I'm waiting for the time when Aang must team up with Zuko for some reason. I hope that happens by the end of the show.

The only small things I didn't like, was how quickly Katara learned to fight so well. She fought Waterbending master and Zuko and came out on top. The master probably has learned about Waterbending for decades while Zuko has learned how to fight his entire life. While it's really awesome, I wish she had struggled more.

Aang also never mastered Waterbending this season. The season finale was so action packed that there wasn't any place to put that. I only hope they spend a few episodes next season showing him how to learn to control water.

Also I was disappointed with how General Zaho went out. I was rooting for Zuko to kill him, or at least not help Zaho, but that might have been a little too adult even for this show.

Overall, I really enjoyed the season. I wish that there had been a little less village of the week episodes, but I mostly liked everything and the season finished very strongly.

Season two.

The Avatar State, The Cave of Two Lovers, Return to Omashu, The Swamp, Avatar Day, The Blind Bandit

The Avatar State
The new season starts. We finally find out more about why Aang goes into the trance whenever he is in deep trouble, and its drawbacks. We meet an Earthbender general who tries to use Aang as a weapon. Not a good idea. It was interesting to see how it blew up in everyone's face. We are also introduced to the new crazy bad guy this season, Zuko's sister, Azula. Azula shoots lightning from her fingers, and loves doing it. Zuko seems like a nice guy compared to her. I hope this year isn't like the first season which took an entire year for Aang to find a master teach him. Nice start.

The Cave of Two Lovers
We get a detour. Aang must travel through a cave with his friends. The hippie dudes were a little annoying, and the story felt like it was going in circles. Of course, I've never been a fan of the whole "Heroes are trapped in a maze" episodes. Aang/Katara fans really loved this episode I guess.

Return to Omashu
We revist a location from season one. I love how much continuity this show has. Overall, it was an okay episode. Azula gets old friends to help her. King Bumi makes a reappearance, speaking while inside a box the entire time. The three on three fight in the end was pretty cool.

The Swamp
I'm not a fan of this episode. It feel like the writers were trying to write horror, but ruining it with all the scenes with the dumb swamp people. We did however get a few nice scenes with Katara and Sokka seeing the people that they cared about that had died. Zuko is also trying to adjust to his new life on the run by using his Blue Spirit persona to steal things for himself.

Avatar Day
One of the main problems I had with season one were all the village of the week episodes. We get another one this week. Aang gets put in prison for something stupid. I spent the entire episode wondering why they didn't just break him out and run. While I didn't like this episode much, we did get many funny scenes with Sokka trying to act like a super detective and also the wheel of punishiment. Community service! Sokka also travels back to the island that Suki lived at, but for some reason she was missing.

The Blind Bandit
We are introduced to a new female character, Toph. She is very different from Katara. Toph is very tomboyish and a loner, but is also an excellent Earthbender. I mistook her for a boy during her first appearance because of the way she acted! I like her green clothes and the fact that she is close to Aang's age. The big thing about her is of course that she is blind, but instead of needing to be protected she acts extra tough. The story itself was fun. The Earthbender matches were inspired by wresting, the Boulder was pretty much the Rock. Sokka was sooo funny screaming like a maniac while sitting in the audience. By the end of the episode she decides to travel with Aang's group. Aang now has a Water and Earthbender teacher. They just need a Firebender. Zuko? Where are you?

Season two has started out very slowly. But I do like the fact that the writers are trying to take Zuko in a new direction as a character. Also Topz is cool.

Toph is my favorite character. She rocks. :D Her and Iroh. The show is MUCH better with her in it!
Oh, God yes. She's a big part of why season 2, overall, is my favorite season.

(Though season 3 has many of the best individual episodes, of course.)

Toph is my favorite character. She rocks. :D Her and Iroh. The show is MUCH better with her in it!

Iroh is awesome. He is funny, a great father figure for Zuko, good teacher, and a kickass fighter. What is there not to love?

I'm sad to hear that the actor, Mako, that played him on the show passed away.

Zuko Alone, The Chase, Bitter Work, The Library, The Desert, The Serpent's Pass, The Drill

Zuko Alone
Great character episode. We find out much more about Zuko's past through flashbacks. Apparently, Azula had always been a little crazy even when she was a little girl. We learn that Iroh was always supposed to be the next Fire Lord, but something went very wrong and Zuko's crazy dad took over instead. In the present Zuko tries to help poor family against Earth nation soldiers. Episodes like this is why Zuko has been my favorite character on the show so far.

The Chase
Nice action episode. Toph and Katara don't seem to get along very well. I thought they would end up having a catfight! The bickering between them was funny. There is another kickass battle at the end. How is it that this show does so well with action scenes?! Azula is pure evil. Shocking cliffhanger for a kid's show at the end.

Bitter Work
The training episode. Both Aang and Zuko train to become more powerful. Toph makes a funny teacher, and is the exact opposite of Katara. At times I forget that she is suppose to be a little girl. The only thing I didn't like was how Sokka was stuck in the ground for nearly the entire episode. Come on! That's just sad. Meanwhile Iroh teaches Zuko. The thing I like about Zuko is that he never gives up, even though it is obvious that he might never find a way to counter his sister's lightning attacks.

The Library
This was pretty much the Avatar meets Indiana Jones. Very fun. Our gang must look though an underground library to find something impotant. We meet a weird Owl spirit and learn something big about the Fire Nation.

The Desert
I didn't like this episode very much. Our gang spends nearly the entire wandering a desert. It's about as interesting as it sounds. The only thing I liked was the end with Aang going a little crazy.

The Serpent's Pass
I love how strong this show's continuity is. Two characters from season one reappear! Jet and Suki! I had a feeling Suki was going to come back. She looked way better without her warrior makeup. Sokka gets some character development trying to protect his friend. There is a cool trip through a narrow pass, and a battle with a sea serpent. Katara really shows off how strong she is with her waterbending when she pushes the sea away like Moses. She has certainly come a long way since season one.

The Drill
An action packed episode. It was really awesome. Aang uses air, earth, and waterbending to fight off Azula. The little guy is really starting to impress me. The best part about this episode was how the main four worked together to take down the machine. The battle was epic. It felt very season finalish.

Man, I'm really going to have to rewatch this show. I've only seen it once through, and I marathoned through it so quickly that a lot of it is a big blur.

I'm actually watching through it again, myself, thanks to Netflix's Instant Streaming. :techman: I kind of marathoned the series when I first watched it, too, but I'm taking my time with it this time around, watching two or three episodes at a time while I'm waiting for Netflix to ship new discs of DS9.

I blew through Season 1 on Instant Netflix, but at the time they didn't have Seasons 2 or 3 available, so I got impatient and bought them at Best Buy. About a week later, Netflix added them.

Oh well, it's a good enough series that I don't mind owning it.

That's also what I said when I saw "The Drill". This felt like the season finale, it's the big Fire Nation attack on the friendly capitol the season revolves around! What could the rest of the season possibly be about? Don't worry it's still good :D

Nearing the end of the show now, started just around the time this thread popped up.

Good times, really enjoyed it.

Only parts that come to mind that I didn't like was how long it took to get anywhere important in season 1, which was remedied later... Ba Sing Sei being a silly, eye-rolling city... And Zuko's sister because her character seems to have no depth to her at all, especially considering her brother is probably the most complex character in the show.

Interested to see how it ends, probably will finish within the next couple days.

City of Walls and Secrets, Tales of Ba Sing Se, Appa's Lost Days, Lake Laogai, The Earth King, The Guru, The Crossroads of Destiny

City of Walls and Secrets
Wow, this episode really reminded of the novel, 1984. This is really dark material for a kid's show. Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom, is being controlled by a secret police and the government is doing whatever it can to keep the public in the dark about the war. The ending was really creepy with Jet.

Tales of Ba Sing Se
Interesting episode. No much happens in terms of plot, but each character gets their own story. I liked Iroh's and Zuko's the most. I loved the dedication at the end to Iroh's voice actor, Mako.

Appa's Lost Days
A different type of episode. We follow Appa during the time that he is lost. The last two episodes have done a good job about showing how long time is being spent in the big city.

Lake Laogai
Season two is really picking up. This was better than anything that we got in season one. They did a great job with the Jet character. The Dai Li being the bad means we finally get battles against people that aren't Fire Nation and Toph is really showing how awesome she is.

The Earth King
The gang breaking into the Eath Kingdom Palace has to be the best action this show has done. Our heroes were pretty much taking on a small army. I also like the the rest of the episode is spent on the Earth King. The guy is pretty clueless but he isn't bad. Another great cliffhanger with the three girls at the end.

The Guru
Great set up episode. It looks like the season is going to go out on a bang. Aaang goes to training to learn how to control his Avatar sate, Sokka sees his father, Toph trys to get out of a metal box, and Katara has to stay behind to deal with the bad things happening in the palace. Seeing Zuko trying to act happy was really weird though.

The Crossroads of Destiny
I loved the season finale. It's so huge. I never expected to see something like villains staging a coup on a kid's show. What Zuko did was pretty shocking. I got to hand it to the writers, they seem to love doing the exact opposite of what we expect. The battles are amazing, even better than the battles in the season one finale. The entire season really ends on a down note, expecially with the Earth King's final line.

Overall, season two was a big improvement from season one. The writing is much more complex. Toph is great, and the team really didn't feel complete without her. Once Toph appeared, the season never looked back. New characters like Azula, Mai and Ty Lee, and Long Feng are intereresting and entertaining. Characters from seasone one like Jet and Suki were brought back and used well. I also love how much screentime Zuko and Iroh had this season, they are probably the best two characters on the show.

Also the last half of the season has to have some of the best writing of any series that I've seen. Instead of going back to the Fire Nation as the only villains again, we really focus much more on the Earthbenders. The big problem of the season ended up being the Earth Kingdom's inaction in the war and the Dai Li. Clever. I liked how much the writers tried to make the season much different from the first season. It took forever for our heroes to get the Northern Water Trible in season one, but in season two we arrive at Ba Sign Sei halfway in the season. It's a really huge city. Looking forward to the next season. I'm not sure how it can beat season two though!

Season Two was excellent. Toph and Katara really do make the show complete. Especially Toph! At first viewing I was slightly disappointed with Season Three, but looking back on it it was just as good. And the end of the story... perfection. The vast majority shows have a disappointing ending, but Avatar went out on a high note!

Ba Sing Sei being a silly, eye-rolling city... And Zuko's sister because her character seems to have no depth to her at all, especially considering her brother is probably the most complex character in the show.

What's wrong with with Ba Sing Sei? I thought it was a pretty cool city. Very different looking from the Northern Water Tribe from season one. One of the best things about this show is how huge some locations are.

I think Azula is cool. She is one of those characters that you just love to hate. I just wish that she had been introduced sooner in the first season. Zuko should have mentioned her by name in the first episode or something.

I'm sure it will be great. The good thing about this show is that it is only 61 episodes, so they can go out on top unlike other popular shows.

I guess I felt that a 1984-esque city in this show felt utterly contrived and ridiculous. I couldn't get behind the idea the moment it starting rearing its head. Nothing about it rang true and I couldn't wait for our heroes to leave and get on with it.

It was a cool looking city though.

I think Azula is cool. She is one of those characters that you just love to hate. I just wish that she had been introduced sooner in the first season. Zuko should have mentioned her by name in the first episode or something.

You know, I seem to recall them foreshadowing her quite early on... I don't think they mention her by name, but I thought they mentioned Zuko had a sister at some point. Or maybe they showed her in a flashback? Again, I don't think by name.

I certainly don't love to hate her. She's evil because she's evil. There doesn't seem to be any reason for her madness, even as a child she's a sadistic evil bitch. It's not interesting to watch what she does.

Maybe these two gripes are just me.

Appa's Lost Days
A different type of episode. We follow Appa during the time that he is lost. The last two episodes have done a good job about showing how long time is being spent in the big city.

This episode was killing me! Ugh, I was tearing up pretty bad at times. Definitely one of the most memorable episodes of the show for me so far.

"Appa's Lost Days" was extremely depressing and sad. I can't stand animal abuse.

As for Azula, she's the product of her parents just like Zuko. As you saw in the S2 flashback episode, the mother loved Zuko and knew that Azula was 'wrong' which of course made Azula even worse because her own mother was disgusted with her, so she just further idolized her father, who is also a power-mad sociopath.
