Australia ST Film promotion = pathetic

Saw my first TV spot tonight. Was flicking between stations, think it was on Eli Stone or Lie To Me. Very short, very rock and roll, starts on the ice world. It flicked past so fast I can't clearly remember it (hey, I'm no teen with ADD!), but there was a couple of shots I hadn't seen before.

I've seen them! TV spots, interviews. There wasn't (ever) any commercial that connected with Trek! I'm excited. Even my friends excited. Yay! )

What? That's true, it's the first Star Trek movie that hits the movie screen in cinemas =)

P.S. That is in my country of course =P (Russia)

Well then this is a momentous thing for MANY reasons!

Congratulations and I sincerely hope you enjoy the film!

For the record, I think I've only seen about 3 ads for Wolverine, and it's already out. Whereas for teen crap like "17 Again" and "Fired Up", I saw countless ads. Are there really that many teenagers watching shows like The Simpsons?

I opened up Hotmail tonight and guess what I found? An ad for ST on the main page! I posted a screenshot down in the Misc Picture This thread, if you're curious.

AND dated properly, 07.05.09!

Two ads during Family Guy? We really know what demographic they are after now. :D

The Nine MSN page is covered in Star Trek ads at the moment.

It's 10PM........Why, as a good movie geek are you NOT watching Margaret and David?!?

Because I had "Thank God You're Here" running while it taped, then flicked across to "Spicks and Specks", then it reverted back to Seven. Usually the TV stays on ABC on a Wednesday night, and so "The Movie Show" comes on in the background while I'm websurfing in the other room.

I assume M&D reviewed the Star Trek movie last night? How did they rate it?

Absolutely nothing in UK. No posters, no tv spots
If that is the case then the studio is going to be in for a rude shock when the film starts to open outside the USA. It is a great film but that means ZERO if the promotion is not there.

Looking over the last four films at Box Office Mojo, each of them took two-thirds of their total cinema earnings domestically, which is well above average. A lacklustre international reception for Trek XI won't come as any surprise at all.

You beat me to it. I hate saying this because I really do appreciate all the International Trek fans, especially the ones from the U.K. and Australia but when it comes to Star Trek, the sun rises and sets in our collective asses here in the U.S. This is true with entertainment media in general, but especially so with Trek.

Honestly, Paramount is not going to sink a whole ton of money in what not only is a very small market, but one that hasn't been grossed a whole lot for them in the past compared to the U.S. market.

The key to the success of this film is its reception in the U.S. But don't feel bad, you Aussies are still important to me if not TPTB at Paramount. ;)
