Australia ST Film promotion = pathetic

Be calm, it's still a little early.

I have heard a rumour that my local will have a special showing on the 6th, but I haven't confirmed it yet. Hope so!

The ads will come guys, I have faith !

Any day now the international advertising campaign will kick in.

Found one!

Its in the Metro paper (Free commuters paper for uk trains/other public transport stations) here in the UK. Its on page 18, bottom left, advertising the premiere tonight with it. :techman:

First mainstream media advertising i have see thus far. Lets hope theres more around the corner.

"' 'old on a minnute, lads... I gotta great idea..." We all cut out those small posters from the Metro paper and litter our areas with them, where ever you can, on seats/floor/ground/windows/walls//park benches/scan them and email to your buddy list/spam them to random fax numbers/put them on sleeping people or even stick em to a tramps back..

We will get it to the masses, we will... ;)

Oh, maybe they really thought we could do the advertising ourselves, no money paid, but gets the job done?
We can take all of our friends, colleagues, tell everyone about the film, maybe that's what they're counting for? )

If that is the case then the studio is going to be in for a rude shock when the film starts to open outside the USA. It is a great film but that means ZERO if the promotion is not there.

Looking over the last four films at Box Office Mojo, each of them took two-thirds of their total cinema earnings domestically, which is well above average. A lacklustre international reception for Trek XI won't come as any surprise at all.

Hello Everybody

Im from Argentina, i just saw an on-screen ad in the Boca - River Soccer match TV broadcast (Images of Kirk climbing on ice and making the ¨leap of faith¨- Star Trek: Premiere May 7th), that match is the most rated TV broadcast of the year, so i think Paramount wants some international reception

Update!

Found some screencaps, sorry for the bad quality, im still looking for a HD source

Here we are in Australia (I am in Sydney - where the world permiere was held)

Actually, what was PATHETIC was the "World Premiere" in Sydney.

We watched the news that night and they had what appeared to be about twelve people standing behind barriers while the stars shuffled past.

It was actually embarrassing.

I bet Sydney doesn't get a world premiere again for a long time after such a pathetic turnout!

It was an odd choice for a world premiere. Star Trek has had a minimal following here as long as I've been into it, which is around 15 years. I did read one newspaper report which said the turnout from both fans and "celebrities" was quite poor, which hardly adds to the local hype.

Well, I would have gone to the premiere if I could have gotten a ticket. But the tickets sold out in about 5 minutes. If they had wanted people to stand around outside while the stars walked into the Opera House, they should have advertised that. There was no indication given that people without tickets might be interested in showing up anyway to get a glimpse of the stars. And so, presumably, the only people who went were ticket holders, and only a tiny number of tickets were available to the general public.

Oh, and I still haven't seen any TV ads for either Star Trek or Wolverine, but last night I saw an ad for Angels & Demons, which doesn't come out until May 14th.

I've not seen any ads on TV, though admittedly I don't spend a lot of time watching it. Must check out my tape of last night's Lost, because that would be a logical place for a Star Trek ad.

Spencer Street is covered in Wolverine posters, incidently...

The Promotion has been piss poor. But on the Bright side, it has been getting positive reviews and exposure. In the Herald Sun today in the Entertainment section, It had it's hot and not list and Star Trek was at the top with the caption "It'll blow your Vulcan Mind".:guffaw:

I know it's a bit corny, but at least it's getting positive feedback.

BRING ON MAY 7!!!!:klingon:

Not one ad during Lost, which is insane.

However, once again they are cashing in on free advertising - a 2-page spread and front cover in today's Play section of the SUnday Herald Sun.

Here we are in Australia (I am in Sydney - where the world permiere was held) and there is basically ZERO promotion for the film with only 3 weeks to go.

No TV spots - none, nothing, nada.

Balderdash. I've seen several screenings of the TV spots, and almost the entire trailer was used (in chunks) in Seven's extensive coverage of the Opera House premiere.

There were posters around the city the week of the Premiere, however they have been unbelievably taken down for some reason and now there are ZERO posters anywhere promoting the film. What is going on here. Is the goal ZERO promotion for the film?
Maybe you're looking in the wrong places? I'm back in the CBD tomorrow, but Sydney had the Enterprise poster everywhere before I went on vacation, comic shops have the "Countdown" poster, and Melbourne had the Kirk/Spock/Uhura everywhere last week.

As a comparison, there are Wolverine promo's all over the TV and entire Wolverine promos all over buses. It open just 7 days before Star Trek.
Yep, in reverse order to the US.

Maybe they want it to tank down here in Aust. I find this really sad. I mean the promo posters were up and all through the city and they have been taken down.
Some posters are intended to have limited rental time. The illuminated bus shelter poster stands take three revolving posters at once, and the ST one was one of three in every stand.

Any Sydney Aust fans notice this zero amount of demonstrative promo (and that the posters were removed)?
Have you considered that some posters have been souvenired by rabid Aussie fans to sell on eBay?

They're not even talking up the fact that it has several Aussies in it (Bana, Hemsworth, Urban, etc)

Eric Bana has been on "Rove", of course, and during the promotion of his car doco, "Love the Beast", he dropped Star Trek trivia in every interview.

How was the promotion for "Australia" in Australia?

Intensive. Despite disappointing US reviews, the film did huge business here and the film's logo was attached to all manner of merchandise.

I did read one newspaper report which said the turnout from both fans and "celebrities" was quite poor, which hardly adds to the local hype.

No, the report was that the Opera House expected the foreshores to be filled with cheering, uniformed ST fans and the general public, but why would we fans turn out to cheer for the 200 fans who did manage to buy the rare $100 tickets on the Internet. I was so disappointed not to get a ticket, there's no way I'd go to the venue just to see the people who did get them walk down the red carpet.

The way it was reported, some people got the impression that many of the 1400 invited guests (with the free double passes) were no-shows, and that was not the case at all.
