Australia ST Film promotion = pathetic

See... the problem here is that they are targeting the add campaign toward the demo's who do not watch star trek. Makes it harder to see the promos.

Case in point here in the states, heavy promotion during UFC.

The article in todays Sunday Herald Sun was kinda nifty. Although Kirks hair on the cover of the Play liftout is very, very blond.

Anyone else got their tickets yet? Gold Class opening day! Hell yeah!

I still have yet to see a single TV ad for it, though I've seen about a million ads for "Fired Up". But I did see some kind of interview with Eric Bana (presumably about Trek, though I didn't stop to watch) on one of the TV screens in front of the cinema at the mall today.

I've been trying to spread the word of mouth myself to friends, family, colleagues, etc.

No-one I talk to seems to have much of an interest. Star Trek has simply not been in the public eye much in Oz. Thanks mainly to bloody Channel Nine only showing the episodes in the 12am graveyard slot.

It comes out in just over a week. I want to see some tv ads, damn it!

This could be the film, finally, that brings Trek to the next generation. Don't let it fail because of poor promotion.

Mmm. Not sure about that. With the exception of my wife, who doesn't like that "ski fee" stuff (:( ), anyone who's seen the ad, read a newspaer article, or saw the news, hss at least said "Yeah, think I'll check it out", and sometimes, "Teah, think it'll be good".

ETA: I've been watching 7 while I work, hasn't been on there yet.

Still havnt seen anything over here in the UK either, not a jott.

I was expecting saturday morning TV at least to plug the movie to the kids in the morning but no, nothing.

10.33pm - just now - during "Rove" on Network Ten (Australia), Sunday! The "TV spot" trailer featuring Pike discussing George Kirk.

Just some photoshoots with Zoe Saldana in the "Instyle" magazine (with just one word about Star Trek) =P
Nothing else...

Simon Pegg was on Friday Night with Ross this week, Sky News & BBC News reported the London showing with the BBC giving a glowing review for the movie. A few papers have done reviews, I just read the one in the Sunday Paper and it was given 5 stars out of 5.

Cupcake? :D I've missed something...

Obviously I watch the wrong shows or something, as I haven't seen a single ad. I really expected one during Lost.

Make sure you buy boxes of the big Sultana Bran, because that seems to be the only tie-in we have. The toy is pretty useless, but...well, it's a Star Trek tie-in, and we may never get one again.

By 'Cupcake' I mean the TV-spot with Kirk & Uhura in the bar + scenes of the drill-rig paradrop and fight.

Here in New Zealand there have been one or two pieces/interviews. As for TV spots - nothing.

Not yet, at least. Wolverine on the other hand is quite prominent. I wonder if they'll hold off here till the last week and then saturate the networks with spots. We'll see soon enough. But with just over a week to go, I'd expect to see something (with this said, I don't watch much TV - there may have been something).

Don't be concerned people, my step dad (who is coming, but is not a trekky), has seen the tv spots numerous times. I have seen 0.2 tv spots.

I reckon its all about the placement.
