Attack of the Clones gets the RLM tratment at last!

This is funny stuff. And Lucas should be forced to watch the entire thing like the chick in the skit. It points out just how retarded the whole pre-trilogy was...

I didn't find this half as insightful as TPM, but it's not that bad either.

Yeah... that wasn't so good. Morgan Freeman, a better choice for a Jedi than SLJ? Nope, don't buy it.

I'd buy that, actually. Mace Windu - in The Phantom Menace particularly, where the role was written before Jackson was considered for the part - is a reserved, wise-type character - something of a cipher like Ki Adi Mundi, but with more lines.

Given that sort of cipher, well, Morgan Freeman could do that shtick in his sleep at this point.

^^ Maybe, but between Qui-Gon and Yoda, there were already enough wise old Jedi in TPM. Undeniably flat as Jackson's delivery was, I think Freeman would have been a far lesser choice, particularly when it came to Mace's fight scenes in Eps II and III.

I think had you cast someone like Morgan Freeman as Windu in Episode I, then his character would have progressed differently in the subsequent installments. He was given a lightsaber and fight sequences in Episode II mostly because Jackson wanted those things, and so Lucas obliged. I don't see Freeman requesting for lightsaber battles.

Bingo. Jackson was miscast and the role was altered a little to be more accomodating in the subsequent films.

Not as good as the TPM review epic. Not enough crazy Star Wars geek nitpickery. And the serial killer stuff is fucking insane. I think less is more with that B-plot. It still needs to be there since it has been throughout all the reviews, but there's a bit too much now. Still, I laughed and enjoyed myself. The relationship sections, lightsabers and Yoda turning into a cartoon of himself were my favorite parts. That and the hooker putting one over on Plinkett.

Once he finishes Ep III, someone should create a series of reviews about his reviews with an even more exacting attention to detail and bemoan how and where he strayed from the classic Star Trek reviews and TPM epic. Then, at the end, they should question themselves and wonder whether RLM was highlighting Lucas' overindulgence dragging down each successive film by bloating each successive review with more serial killer shit and less nerdrage.

It was funny, but I don't think it was as insightful as the Episode I review and some parts seemed stretched out. In short, it didn't need to be 90 minutes.

The killer segments were amusing, but too much focus was on that at times. I did like the inter-cutting between the killer segments and the fact that it was apparently taped over the Bozo Show. Coming from Chicago, I found that hilarious.

True, but I like seeing Mace fight in Eps II and III after not doing so in I. His first appearance whets our appetite to see more of him... good grief, am I really defending GL on this one? :p

Loved the bits where ESB Yoda sighs and frowns at Lucas and his PT Yoda.

Can we talk more about the Yoda theme appearing during the Geonosis factory sequence? Or why the Droid March was used during the big reveal of the Clones? Or why the Stormtrooper theme from ANH wasn't used at all during the creation of the Clones? Or why almost the entire final reel of the film was scored using music that was recorded during TPM?

C'mon, it's my pet peeve, afterall. :p

I'd love to hear and see about it... make a youtube video! :)

Y'know ... you're right. Mayhap I'll spend some time re-scoring things using the appropriate musical themes. Might make for an interesting project. It may have to way for summer, when I'm finished teaching. But it'd be fun to do.

Yeah, the scores for all three prequel films were poorly edited. The Geonosis battle music in particular is a total mess.

Maybe John Williams was daunted by the task of making cose to 6 hours or whtever of music.

But yeah, Samuel Walters I'd love to hear about it because I'm one of those that knows close to nothing about music (other than I know I like this or that kind of thing) but would be open to hearing the flaws in the prequel trilogy's score.

I agree with those who say it goes on too long.

The part about the romance being bad and Anakin's wrong things to do to appeal to a woman, well...no, shit. He's a creep but she's a fool. Made for each other.

I'm not sure I buy the "Yoda is above using a lightsaber" argument. That was too fanboyish. Overuse of lightsabers, I'll give him that.

Jackson was miscast, because the role was meant for a cardboard cut out that would later be replaced with CGI muppetry.

He never calls Jango Fett anything but Boba Fett...and avoids commenting on that beyond decrying kids being in the film.

There's a ton of re-used music in the film (it's really quite annoying, but I understand Williams was under intense pressure to finish in the face of constant re-cutting by Lucas), but is the entire last reel really scored with music from The Phantom Menace? I recall the final scenes having original music (including a reprise of the Emperor's theme which is oddly deleted from the middle of a track on the soundtrack album) at least.

^ It was mostly the arena battle sequences that had the tracked in music. However, I don't think it was as noticeable as it was in RotS.
