Attachments to things you have from when you were a toddler

Okay, I'll admit it: I still have my blankey from when I was a baby. What's more, although I can sleep well enough without it, I'd rather not.

It's a knitted blanket that was given to me when I was six months old. That was almost 27 years ago. It more closely resembles a ball of wool today. It still has a few blanket-like qualities today though, and I'm still unreasonably attached to it.

Ashu inadvertantly brought this to my attention today when she was over at my place. She grabbed it from me and rolled over away from me to have a nap. All I could think was "She stole my fucking blanket!"

(By the way, we had a good laugh about this afterward so there's no hard feelings or anything)

Do any of you have any relics from your childhood that you still hold sacred?

I have my Ernie plush doll (from Sesame Street) that I've had since I was ten years old. I had an older one from when I was seven but that got lost and replaced by this one. The ear is chewed from my first family dog. My nana who I was very close with bought it for me so. I also have my blue baby blanket (so does my brother).

My first teddy bear, got it when I was two days old, almost 26 years ago. Still love that thing to pieces.

I don't think I have anything from when I was a kid, let alone a toddler. Maybe my parents have something in their house, but I don't remember anything specific.

Actually, even the cells in my body are not the same from when I was a kid, so my attachment to the past is quite slim. ;)

My first teddy bear. My grandfather worked for Texaco, and they had a stuffed animal of some kind on their Christmas tree every year. He took one the December after I was born. It's a little brown bear wearing a red shirt with the Texaco symbol in white on the front.

It's been washed, lost, attacked by dogs, and a whole slew of other things, but I still have it... nearly 28 years later. I doubt I'll ever give it up. In fact, in a fire, I'd save him and my gaming notebook... in that order.

I too still have my baby blanket, however I do not sleep with it... but its still important to me, not so much because it was my baby-blanket, but because each of my (till now) 13 animals over the time had it after me. The only stupid thing is that one day I washed it wrong...and no it did not get smaller, it did get larger...it´s now at least 1/3 larger than it originally was, but also thinner. Still if there would be a fire, that would be one thing I would certainly try to save.

As a child I not so much needed stuffed animals and such (had them, but never grew THAT attached to them, the only stuffed animals I have from the past are a dog and a cat, but not because of the animals, but because the dog wears my real dogs first colar and the cat my real cats last colar).
I only needed and loved my right thump... of course I still have my right thump ...but do not suck on it anylonger. However I sucked on it quite a long time, from baby-age till I was 10/ 11 years old *blush*. After that I trained my attention on buttons (the cold, shiny ones, not buttons that have cloth over it)...and still today I sleep best when the bedding has buttons (but can also sleep if its not the case, though not without being annoyed that there are no buttons) , when it lays the wrong way up, so that those buttons are at my hands and not feet, when I have one button in the hand, the hand near the face, so that the button is somewhere near my lips. Guess thats what remained from my love of my thump....so its sort of an attachement from back than. Might be a little bit strange, but hurts no one.

The thing I was really attached to as a toddler was pacifiers. I stopped using them but kept them around, but once I turned 6 or 7 my mom made me throw them all away. So I don't really have anything from that time that I am really attached to. I have a couple of stuffed animals still around but I feel no deep connection to them.

I don't think I'm holding on to anything quite that old. I have a couple stuffed animals from a little later in my childhood but they aren't 'sacred.' I thought about it for a minute and I think my a report card from kindergarden is the oldest artifact I have, not counting my birth certificate. My mom kept all my report cards and I have them along with some old school work in a scrapbook now.

I have a stuffed toy dog ("Red Eyes") that was given to me on my first birthday. After over forty years, it's not in the best of shape- multiple "surgeries" have taken a toll- but I would never part with him. He sits on top of my dresser.

I have my complete "artists" collection from way back in kindergarden, my parents have a handprint made in plaster also in kindergarden and i still have my abacus from 1st grade elementary school (didn't make me a good mathematician but still).

I'll keep those safe forever.

My Mom has the stuffed bear she made me when I was born, in a chest at my parents' house. She made one for my younger brother and my nephews and niece. I wonder how far she'd go when I have kids (my nephews and niece are from my half brother from Dad's first marriage).

I also still have the digital clock, complete with the 1980sequse wooden-style from my first communition in 1987. It works great to this day.

still got my old teddy bear from when I was a wee nipper over 40 years ago even got him his own little bed (well a box)

I don't have anything from toddlerhood as I didn't have a favourite blankie or teddy, but I still have the toy doggie one of my brothers gave me when I was 12 and in hospital for jaw surgery. My brother has an aversion to hospitals and didn't come to visit me so he showered me with little gifts instead.

My daugher is 13 and still sleeps with the blanket I crocheted for her when I was pregnant with her. I've had to repair it a few times and it never leaves her bed.

I still have my stuffed toy duck, my LEGO spaceship I made, my stuffed toy dolphin, my old rocking horse, plus all the usual childhood neuroses, emotional baggage, scars (some even physical) and Oedipus complexes.

I owe my life to them all, and wouldn't want to part with them (or else I'll stomp off in a huff and tell my mum).

I have the teddy bear I got for my first Christmas -- he'll be 60 this year. He's blind and the stuffing is coming out of him in a couple places, so he spends most of his time carefully wrapped up in a closet.

I also have a blanket (the label calls it a "pram rug") in perfect condition and my christening gown.

I think my parents have a few things kicking around, but I didnt take anything when i moved out.
