I'm over two years late, but I finally finished Stargate Atlantis. I saw the last three seasons between December and now and I've got some random stuff to throw out in no real order...
- I enjoyed that episode where Kellar switched places with the crook lady. I love stone episodes and this one got me thinking more about how they work. They only caught my attention and interest with SGU. I don't remember much from the SG-1 episodes. First off, I was reminded that the ancient device was a lamp-like artifact where you put the stones on the side, yet on SGU, they use a box-like contraption with glass plate. I'm guessing that someone developed that for use with the stones, something I didn't really know before now. Also, I got to wondering how people can use the stones on the Destiny and connect with someone on Earth. I mean, why Earth? Why wouldn't they connect with some random person somewhere else in the universe? Well, I figure that each stone has a corresponding stone, something else I didn't think of before. If this is the case, then I guess having eight stones instead of four wouldn't allow for eight swaps at a time. I hope I'm not way off on any of this. If I am, don't be too mean when you smack me down for my ignorance.
- I really enjoyed "Vegas". It's probably one of my favorite episodes of the series. I loved how they parroted CSI, right down to the stylish and sensationalistic camera work, saturated shots and music. They even did a good job of capturing the same dark and seedy feel of Las Vegas. Oh, and Marilyn Manson's song "The Beautiful People" was a nice touch during the scene where the wraith was putting on the human make-up. Nice nod to the wraith looking like Manson.
- So, Atlantis ended up on Earth, just outside of San Francisco. I knew about that for a while now, but it was nice to finally see it. I'm surprised it was that close to the city. I figured it would be some distance out at sea. What if that cloak fails? I'm guessing they moved the city at some point. Also, given the non-ending we got, I'm wondering what became of the city and it's characters. I feel fortunate that I got to see this now, two weeks before SGU's Atlantis crossover so that I won't have to wait long to find out. And I hope we do find out and that they don't leave things vague.
- One more thing... I liked Woolsey as the commander of Atlantis. The crew's acceptance of this guy didn't ring true, but I still liked seeing an old guest star bureaucrat bumped up to series regular and in the position of Atlantis commander.
