At the Movies

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I realize that there my a thread on this, but I was on the new www.atthemoviestv.com and was watching the new reviewers at work.

CRAP. These guys suck. They just suck. The intelligence, wit, and passion of Siskel and Ebert is gone. I even miss Roeper, who was until now almost nothing to me. these guys make him look like Siskel. Damn this show sucks now. Even the music is deafening!

Just watched some of it. I find Ben Lyons a bit hard to take seriously. What is he, 12? And he comes across completely flat on screen. His only credentials are being on "E"? I find it hard to believe anything he says. At least the other guy seems to actually be speaking from his heart, rather than a teleprompter.

But, yeah---I doubt I'll ever watch this on TV.

well......I haven't seen it, and that suits me fine from what I hear.

and I was always fond of Roger Ebert. I happen to agree with him a lot. He had an intelligence and passion you don't get out of the E! guys and was a class act. He also did a few great commentaries for Citizen Kane and Casablanca.

After reading their bios, it seems that both of them got to this position based on their family history.. both of their family's well-known names in the biz

I can't even begin to watch it.

For years I've seen smaller films that got no publicity when they came out based on Siskel, Ebert and Roeper putting it out there. Some of the movies I wouldn't otherwise heard about I saw in the theater based on their insightful reviews:

The Professional
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Lost In Translation
Donnie Darko
Once
Master & Commander
Below

Just in 2008:
Reprise
The Fall
Redbelt

So Roeper leaving and then hearing that they were turning the show into something E! would do, it was kind of devastating to me. Movies are more to me than something to entertain. They're my life, my passion, and these guys are a big part of that.

This whole thing is like if CBS retooled 60 Minutes and turned it into Inside Edition.

There was talks that they were going to strike a deal with someone else to return in another manner. I hope so.

If you haven't seen the new seizure-inducing "wear lots of flare" format, you can always go onto their website. The reviews with the longest times are the ones where they bring in three more "hip" critics via satellite for a roundtable discussion.

The show is quite bad now and there's a reason Ben Lyons is referred to as a quote whore.
