Article on Trek vs Wolverine Box Office

Based on your sig you seem very into Star Trek so this is very weird seeing how the Trek fans who've seen this seem to absolutely love it.
I'm not one of them. The Trek fanbase is very fractured, so that shouldn't be that much of a surprise to anyone. This movie is only going to fracture it further. My sig shows that I care enough about the old franchise to try to make a worthy prequel to it. Why on earth would I be a fan of something that marginalizes something I already like and care about?

If you like Star Trek the franchise you owe it to see this, if this movie isn't a hit Trek is dead as a franchise. If it does great then that opens many new opportunities.
I'd actually rather this movie never saw the light of day, but that isn't going to happen. In any case I'd rather see the franchise die for a bit until someone can bring it back in a good way than see yet another frak-up of a film based on the Abrams reboot. So I owe it nothing, and neither does anyone else. Being "mainstream" would be nice, but it's not needed, especially not at the cost of changing so much of it.

It doesn't matter if he sees it or not, it wont make a difference. A protest by a minority of Trek fans won't make any impact.
It's a sign of an insecure mind to need to be in the majority. I don't need my opinion vindicated by anyone, it's just my opinion and I really can't care any less what anyone else thinks of it. If someone agrees with me, cool, if they disagree, whatever.

Ok shut up crybaby

I really don't see the problem. Wolverine opens a week prior to Trek, and advance reviews have pretty much panned Wolfie, while they've sung Trek's praises. I figure that Wolverine will open strong, then word of mouth will confirm the advance reviews, and thereafter audiences will stay away from it in droves, save for a few ultra-diehard Jackman fans.

I seriously don't anticipate it'll give Trek much competition at all.

The real trick will be if Trek can do sufficiently well at the box office before Terminator 4 opens. And while many are looking forward to the new Terminator film, it's important to remember that the last film pretty much bombed, and the Terminator television series hasn't done all that well in the ratings either. That said, it's entirely possible that the Terminator franchise is every bit as dead as pre-Abrams Trek was, and that the only people who'll show up are diehard fans, as opposed to more mainstream audiences. So once again, it may not prove to be much competition.

I don't want to see any more name-calling, please.

Speaking of name-calling, Captain X:

Being sneaky about it isn't any better than doing it out in the open, as he did. It's just sneakier. Now, knock it off.

I really hate this whole trek vs wolfie crap, both movie will do great. I do hope trek do better, being more of a trek fan than xmen, but i be happy star trek does good enough for a sequel. Thats all i care about.

WOW i didn't actually read the article till after i post. After reading the article, i am little concern for star trek. Doesn't look good.

It is still very strange to see a fan of a franchise outright ignore the only single thing that could revive it. Especially when its box office potential right now shows it needs all the help it can get.

Part of me wonders if it was a mistake for Paramount to move this It is sandwiched in between Wolverine and Termintor...

My Three Viewings should help cancel out a couple of the Conscience Objectors.
:techman:
compared to my usual 3-6 on any Star Trek movie I used to fork out?...:p:lol:

they may be underestimating the negative feelings that x3 caused in a lot of the people who saw it.

the question is that this is a prequel and not xmen make enough difference.
and what kind of impact is that leaked copy going to have.
unlike the good press coming with the trek previews there has been a lot of negative
word of mouth about wolverine since then.

Honestly, I thik Wolverine has its audience - the X-Men crowd/fanbase. It will draw large first weekend. The buzz round this movie is small, non-fans are not going to rush and see it.

However, the buzz is definitely pro-Trek. There are people who I have heard say - "WOW, I'm not a Trek fan, but I wanna see that movie". Now, will they go first weekend? Who knows, but I think that sort of buzz will help in the long run and give the movie legs in the box office. Plus the whole IMAX thing has to add a little bit more $$$ to the pot.

Wasn't the leaked copy an unfinished version of the film??

That may or may not mitigate its monetary outcome a bit, once people actually get to see the real thing.

My guess is Wolverine 90 million, Trek 40 million

Trek will make a lot more than 40 million remember with inflation included the older Trek movies make alot more. The fanbase will turn out in droves AKA FC and not Nemesis but this one will bring in some new viewers or casual viewers.

First Contact adjusted is around (I think)...

$148,984,986 in the US Box office

$75,492,493 in the Worldwide Box office

= $224,477,479 grand total

If FC can do that I would hope we can push the overall total close or past $300 million.
