Spoilers Arrow Season 7

Nobody actually literally stated 'I saw Felicity/Oliver die'. Till then, all bets are off.

That's their out of course. But so far, we are seeing a very miserable future. It doesn't make too much sense without time travel.

I was actually hoping that adult William will end up in 2019 with a mission to prevent this future. I guess that might end up repetitive though.

Well, we will certainly know more very soon.

My theory is the new time period might them setting a time jump for the show were the main story is told from this future time period. The good thing is you can still have everyone around in the present as well for crossover episode with the other show. It would be kind of neat to explore one of these shows in a world were the city has crumbled and maybe society. It could be like "Arrow" meets "The Walking Dead" only with comic book villians instead of zombies being the biggest threat to people.

For this future to exist, a lot of bad has to happen, in a world where the Flash exists. Assuming you're right, it would be hard to do such a massive time jump with all the shows so connected. Plus, in theory, Crisis is going to accomplish something.

So far, for the most part, the crossovers told a bigger than normal story, but in the end, the crossover ended, and the season arc on each show would continue as if nothing happened.

Ultimately, the biggest permanent thing was Barry, Iris, Oliver and Felicity got married, which was really just a natural progression of the respective show's arcs.

If COIE is really going to be a true homage to the comic, then when the dust settles, everything has to change.

If they really want to do it right, they should wrap up every storyline on every show before this happens, and then they will be in a position with no loose ends. Hell, if they wanted, they could kill off some fan favorites, knowing full well they will be alive and well again after the Crisis.

They could do anything, including shuffle different characters to different shows--should they want.

But if that is the case, and COIE really is going to be done well, then this bad future would hopefully be wiped out. And if that's the case, again, we have no real point of this story yet.

I really feel that in a comic book show, about heroes, the idea that their entire lives are wasted kind of stinks. If this is the real future, then Oliver's work meant nothing. So my true hope is that this story leads to a better story where we find out how to change things.

You know, thinking about it--without time travel, what is the point of this 20 year peak into the future?

From what we know right now, subject to change, Felcity is dead, looks like Oliver is dead, and the future does not look so bright.

If this is the world 20 years in the future, that kind of means that Oliver and crew accomplished absolutely nothing, and the world is not even close to being a better place because of all they did and sacrificed.

It sends a terrible message.

UNLESS there is some sort of time travel element that prevents this distopia. Granted, that's been done before and is hardly original, but this is kind of a bummer plot without it.

I wonder what the point is right now. That said, it's also the most interesting part of the season for me, and I look forward to unraveling this mystery.
If they prevent this future it's not going to be until the end of the series, they producers have already said that the flash forwards' story will continue until the end of the series.

Ok, I don't mind flash forwards, but so far, this isn't exactly an appealing future, and I hope they don't drag it too long.

so about another 16 eps then?

/runs.

Even if you ignore the bleak future in "Arrow" don't we know one is going to happen anyways from "Legends of Tommorow?" Also I am kind of confused. Is it only the Glades part of the city that is in bad shape while the rest of the city is fine? So you sort of have future where the rich and powerful live in the good part of the city where the poor and exploited get shoved into the Glades. Kind of a "RoboCop " future were society is still intact technically but it's falling apart at the seems. Actually I guess these days I could call that real life as well.

I think its the other way around; I think they built up the glades into a sanctuary, and let the rest of the city rot around them. A map of Star City would be nice.....

Yeah, I think there's a recurring thread about how some bad guys are buying up property in the Glades and starting fires and disasters and such to drive down property values, so they can gentrify the area and drive out the working-class people there. Presumably the dystopian future is the end result of that, the rich turning the Glades into their enclave and letting the rest of the city rot. (RoboCop is a good analogy -- Delta City vs. Old Detroit.)

There have been some good "documentary" episodes here and there. M*A*S*H's "The Interview" was really impressive, with the cast basically improvising in character and giving some pretty striking insights. Stargate SG-1's "Heroes" 2-parter actually got a Hugo nomination and got into some deep philosophical territory the show didn't often address, as well as featuring a brilliant performance by Saul Rubinek. And there was that bizarre, hilarious Xena episode where there was somehow a TV documentary being made in Ancient Greece and nobody seemed to notice the anachronism. Although I have seen examples that didn't work, like Leverage's "The Office Job" (where there was too much that it was unlikely a documentary crew would capture or was too contrived in the way they did).

Could be that I just haven't seen any yet. I'll live in hope that this one is one of the good ones. But I'm not generally a big fan of the documentary style in general. Even for actual documentaries.

Not a fan of this show anymore, but out of morbid curiosity...watched today's episode. I regret it.

It was really bad.

Maybe it's a good time for Arrow to end, creatively this is just Soap Opera levels of trash. The show almost seemed self-aware of how bad it was. Especially when the Felicity character revealed the twist about the DNA.... lol, it was like even the actress knew that this was stupid writing.

The Emiko twist was so unnecessary, and the actress delivers her dialogue almost like a parody of Amell's version. That combined with her awkward lisp really didn't sell this as a compelling character. She comes across like a lame redux of revenge-seeking characters we've seen multiple times on this show, including the protagonist.

I know this show is written for tweens on the CW and the YA audience, but damn. S1, at least, aimed for better than this. This was just terrible.

Those 'flash forward' scenes were unintentionally hilarious though. Clearly lacking the production budget for decent makeup.

So with Emiko I suppose that gives Oliver one full sister. :)
I want Oliver to introduce her to Barry, I'd love to see his reaction.

The flash should take notes from Arrow on how to do a midseason premiere. This episode addressed the cliffhanger dead on, and set the season on a course for a very promising second half. Really loved getting Emiko's background and all the storylines were really well done. I probably can do without Diaz though, as his story still feels season 6-ish and not really anything to do with what we have now.

I really wonder if the present and future storylines will collide somewhere. We're halfway into the season and I feel like the future storyline isn't really necessary to where the rest of the series is heading. Maybe it has to do with Emiko and Rene taking Justice into their own hands in the Glades, but we're talking about 20 years here. Will Emiko corrupt Rene massively in the next few years?

Still, this is how midseason premieres should be done. Take the cliffhanger, have an episode hit it dead on, and then set up the stories for the final episodes of the season. What Flash did last week was address the cliffhanger at the beginning and end but the momentum was grind to a halt in the middle. Don't feel that with Arrow.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that the rest of the season will show how the seeds were planted for what the characters become in the future. It's interesting that Dinah and Rene reverse their roles, with Rene becoming the law-and-order establishment figure and Dinah the vigilante do-gooder. Although it looks like future Rene has gone to a darker place.
