Spoilers Arrow - Season 5

Chase really got to him and he doesn't want to feel responsible for what happens to them in the life of a vigilante.

Yeah, but is the decision really up to him? If John, Felicity, Curtis, Rene, and Dinah want to keep on crimefighting, does he have the right to stop them? I mean, he's not rich anymore, right? I don't think he's the one bankrolling the operation, though I don't remember who is (since Felicity doesn't run PalmerTech anymore). So I'm not sure it's his call to decide on the future crimefighting prospects of anyone but himself. And I'm sure Cisco would be happy to keep providing the others with new gear as needed.

That episode was insane. I kinda had a feeling we might be getting something like B5's Intersections of real time and this episode had the tone. I also loved how flashback heavy it was and how it all came together. I thought last week's episode was awesome. This episode was better.

I'm trying to remember what Anatoly said at the end. "When [your alter ego] falls apart someday, you're not going to like what you'll see." And he was absolutely right. I thought that Oliver had made peace with the realization that killing people in his early Hood days was a bit extreme, which is why he opted not to resort to killing unless he absolutely had to. But killing "because he enjoyed it" reminded me a lot of Thea's bloodlust after being resurrected through the Lazarus pit (just like Sara). This is all water under the bridge anyway. Why should it matter to him now?

Wow, that was intense, if the writers manage to stick the landing this is shaping up to be one hell of a season.

How did Music Meister manage to miss the hero that needs some psychological help the most this week? ;)

I don't think it's water under the bridge for Oiliver - the violence and the darkness have been eating at him for quite some time and probably came to the fore late last season when looking for a way to defeat Darkh.

Is this the first time we've had an episode that was mostly flashback?

They do one each season, there was the one when Moira shot Oliver, the one when Slade tours their mansion, the one when Oliver went back to Starling City before he returned... I don't remember which one was it last season but then the flashbacks were usually boring most of them felt they went on too long ;)

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with them taking Oliver somewhere this dark. It's hard to see how he can come back from it and still be considered a hero.

I'm guessing since in this one Oliver realizes from just what kind of dark place he originally comes, the next few episodes will feature him realizing just how far he's moved away from that darkness over the years. With a little help from his friends, of course.

Which is exactly why I think he needs to talk to Barry.

I really wish this whole time the series had flashback heavy episodes. Maybe a half dozen each season. But only used in that way. The rest of the episodes would be in the present, So the flashbacks always would have been important. The format of every episode needing flashbacks never completely worked.

True, he felt bad about his past actions. Even Anatoly in the flashback was getting concerned that Ollie might be going too far, especially when he tortured one of the Russian gangsters for info. Yes, he committed violent acts in the name of vengeance or justice, or whatever his motive might have been. Yes, a part of him enjoyed killing criminals and bad guys. But that's all in the past. It's time to move on. He has changed a lot since he returned to his home city five years ago.

That's the thing, though -- he hasn't admitted that to himself. He's hidden behind the rationalization that the violence he inflicted was necessary. So he hasn't really faced his guilt about his past actions until now. He can't truly move on from it until he confronts it and works through it.

So I am a little confused...are they doing another misdirect? I must be tired, but I thought they were implying that Chase was actually connected to the RUssians, that he might actually be the son of Dolph Lundgren's character? Is that why Chase burned off the Brava logo?

The whole Brava storyline -- it just seemed unnecessary. And how will they show the last , what , 6-9 months? Enough to get a beard?

Now,the "Ollie Retiring" storyline... will this happen every 2 years or so or what?

The whole Brava storyline -- it just seemed unnecessary.

It's pretty necessary, it had to tie up a lot of stuff to get him to Season 1 Oliver, how he decided to follow the list to right his father's wrongs, how he decided to come up with the Hood persona, why he was in such a headspace where he thought killing was an acceptable way to achieve his goal, and explain how he became a Bratva captain obviously.

And more Anatoly is always a good thing. :techman:

And how will they show the last , what , 6-9 months? Enough to get a beard?

If we take these flashbacks as happening in "real time" then if he goes to the island in the final episode it will be in May, and the bearded island Ollie form the opening in Season 1 is in October. So 5 months difference. Don't know how much that is in beard length. :D

Now,the "Ollie Retiring" storyline... will this happen every 2 years or so or what?

In 2 more years it will be season 7, which is possibly the final one, so... yeah. :p

^ Exactly. I don't see them letting go of such a popular property like Arrow so quickly unless the ratings really plummet or something.

Very true about CW, and I actually like that, though Arrow may be a little different in that we have a shared universe and they can always focus on another hero. There's going to be a 5th show next year about Black Lightning.

And Arrow ending doesn't mean we have seen the last of Oliver because of that same shared universe.
