Are You Handy? 2

You guys are pros.
I wish :D

We just do what the pros tell us to do, and the rest of the time, improvise ;)

I'm glad this project is winding down. I can do pretty well with drywall but it sucks having to deal with all the dust and plaster getting everywhere in the living room. I'm too anal about the mess and constantly have to vacuum and sweep :klingon:

You and me both. I recently purchased a sanding attachment that connects to my shop vac to clean the dust while sanding. I'll post up some pics when I get moving again on my projects. I'm still making progress in my kitchen and living room with a bedroom closet to be completed.

We decided since the weather outside is so much nicer we can begin to shingle the front and back of the house (later we'll paint the sides).

In just a few hours we got it down to a science and moved along at a pretty good clip.

Yesterday we nailed in the corner and upper trim to frame the shingles. Before we get much further along, I'm going to pull off the storm windows, and remove/replace the window trim. While scraping off the loose paint on the trim it was evident that they are starting to rot and probably won't hold primer or paint any longer. Shingling is actually one of the more fun jobs we've done so far. I guess it falls into that "instant gratification" catagory :) The triangular portion above the trim will get new paint (same color as the sides which we think will become a light "brick" red. ANYTHING would be better than this horrible battleship gray!!) Hopefully we'll be all wrapped up with this side by the weekend.

How close are you to the ocean? Maybe you should leave the battleship gray and put up a Widow's Walk. :D

My house (located within the yellow circle)

is between Great Hering Pond and (overlooks) Island Pond and is within 2 miles of the ocean :)

Spocked have you done any yard work?

I need to fill an area of my yard and build a set of steps, like concrete and wooden ones.

The grade is fairly steep, pobably between 30 and 45 degrees and its really crappy soil. I plan to use crushed stone and clean fill and then build my steps from there.

Any suggestions on materials or a bette way to proceed anyone? I'll try and upload a pic later.

Up until now we've really only focused on the interior, however, we have made significant plans for the yard. We wanted to get house painting and shingling done ahead of that and actually started a little earlier because of agreeable weather. We are going to need to do some grading and retainer walls since our property is on a sloping lot. In the picture below (taken prior to the shingling)

you can see (in the right foreground) the advance work of taking out trees - as many as possible with a sawzall. We bought a chainsaw this afternoon to begin to take the stumps out. We have tall Ash trees and the root systems are horrific. They have to come down because the roots get into septic, foundation, and are everywhere sprouting saplings. But to answer your question, AR, we are just not at that point yet.
