Are you depressed over bad reviews or simply don't give a F--?!

Critical opinion can be interesting, but it neither keeps a show on the air nor often gets it cancelled.
IDK - Critic's opinions kept nuBSG2003 on the air at Sci-Fi/SyFy when the ratings really started to lag (and got Caprica launched too as a series for one season.) Hell, the Execs even mentioned they kept the show going in the later seasons BECAUSE it was their one 'Critically Acclaimed' show at the time and it gave the cable channel some media credibility.

I did finish Episode 1, and my opinion has not changed. I recognize The Man Trap was shaky, too, although in context, it was still rather brilliant.

I may keep watching, lens flare and all, but it is not Star Trek. It's something else.

I think DSC has been great so far. It's still not my favorite Trek, but I do consider it to BE Trek, and I have faith that all discrepancies will be resolved.

I think it's too early to call it "success" or "finished." Unless it just plods along with absolutely terrible episodes (some shows that did that were cancelled after just 3 episodes), it will definitely go through a full season. Maybe at least two, before a substantive consideration of continuance. And it'll all be scrutinized for reception, perhaps adjusted accordingly. Given how much money CBS has behind this, and the Star Trek franchise at stake, I expect that they're going to trod carefully going forward. Again... too early to predict what WILL happen, but it'll be interesting to see how things develop.

When looking at all Star Trek series that have been created, the Original Series is the only one I think had a solid 1st season. ALL of the other series that followed were weak in their 1st and 2nd seasons... Although TNG had some terrific gems in the 2nd season, despite the season 1 production quality. It wasn't until season 3 that the show had a major face lift and became distinctly better. DS9 began to shore up late in season 2. Voyager and Enterprise waddled a lot until Season 3.

But Discovery is a completely different animal, different venue. Different financial stake as well.

It's still four years away, but I am really looking forward to reviewing TOS in context as it comes out (and reading the fanzines, enjoying other ancillary material, etc.) -- I *think* I can do it. I remember sufficiently my reactions to the show when I first saw it, and Lord knows I've got the context down...

It was a very different world back in the mid 1960's. Star Trek was definitely breaking very new ground. A number of episodes were actually banned in various locales, or edited to compensate. There were mixed reviews at the time, from what I understand. Rather polarized too. Non sci-fi fans were rather lukewarm. But for sci-fi fans this series was so ground breaking, not unlike Star Wars that came later in 1977. But of course a movie is a very different venue than a TV show. And CBS wasn't very kind to the programming time slot for Star Trek. This was before the advent of VCR units. Late night on Friday was a death slot. Of course with other problems afoot, the quality of the shows began to drop with more lackluster episodes in Season 3... which only hastened the demise of Star Trek. When the show was cancelled there was a real uproar about it and thankfully a syndication deal was struck. With a much better time slot, Star Trek began to take off.

What difference does it make what the critics say as they and about 600 other people in the United States are the only ones who are going to be watching this program. Way to go CBS

CBS owns the rights to Star Trek now but when TOS first aired on television it was broadcast on NBC. In fact Shatner and Nimoy even posed with a sign for a photo that promoted another NBC series: Laugh-In.

I haven't read any reviews, but since the show is objectively no good so far, I'm not really surprised that the reviews are bad.

No. The opinions of others are as farts: insubstantial, and composed mainly of hot air and feces.

I will like what I will like, and if you want to tell me I shouldn't like what I like, just because you don't like it, I have a body part (also containing feces) for you to suckle upon.

Bah! It's not Star Trek. It's Star Trek Cosplay and Fan fiction with extremely expensive special effects budgets. It's stories and content are horrendous, and it's message is divisive. I can't stand this new JJ Abrams Trek style verse.. I can't stand CBS streaming access, it's a crappy platform to market something like this show, tho given how messed up the series and writing are, and how Shallow and un-developed the characters are, I am really more interested in watching the Orville. Thank God for an Alternative! Star Trek Discovery as a show, is just overall depressing.. I Don't care what the critics say in support. They matter little to my opinion, as theirs has always been an opinion to which I disagree with. Star Wars TFA is a perfect example of hype and stupidity, anyone dissenting was labeled a sexist. Anyone who didn't like the Casting of Jodie Whittaker for the new Doctor Who was also labeled a sexist. So with Discovery, calling people who aren't fans sexist, or racist is a good sure way of shutting down the conversation and alienating other Trekkers who may give Discovery a chance, but by them getting name called and attacked, it is a sure bet they won't give it a chance, and thus the same is happening to Doctor Who and possibly Star Wars...

Sucks to be a dissenter and not part of the online and Critic Borg Collective thinking brigade... but I like to keep myself as a free thinking independent.. so I don't much care what people call me. The Show sucks, and not just for obvious aesthetic reasons or canonical reasoning.. but also, the writing and the stilted and wooden performances from all the actors. Discovery SUCKS, plain and simple in my opinion.. Give me Galaxy Quest, Orville, or the original movies, and DVDs any day. I'd prefer to spend my money on that, or the original Star Wars merchandise then this new crapfest of a Star Trek Wanna be..

Get off my lawn with your spores and your saucer gaps and your slightly more realistic space-lighting you darned whippersnappers. Code of Honor was unifrying trek writing at it's finest. I hate what they are doing to canon. Orville Orville Orville. Pepperidge Farm remembers when real Trek was about exploration and uplifting concepts like General Order 24 and Matlock!

Fan since '73, love the show so far, and I haven't seen a ton of negative reviews, excluding people who've written off the show over trivia.

I don't mind negative reviews but the comments section on Youtube with anything Discovery related is more far more vile than usual. One tries not to look at it, but like a twisted body on the Glenn you cant help but notice.
