Are You a Fan of The Big Bang Theory?

I watched seasons 1-7 on Netflix. Funny show, but I was getting bored by the end. The potential for a stronger connection with Star Trek sounds promising! I just reinstated my Netflix account so I can catch up...

Edited because I realized I've watched 8, too.

An entire episode where the whole gang throws a viewing party to watch the first episode, but then Bernadette goes into labor?

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest and like Nerys Myk said, I can just imagine the reaction we get out of Sheldon:guffaw:

I love this show. The Wil Wheaton episodes always crack me up.

And yes the opportunities for cross-promotion between TBBT and Star Trek are incredible.

:techman:

I am quite a sitcom buff [I collect them] and I must say I like The Big Bang Theory. I always find the way people interpret sitcoms specifically, to be quite fascinating. They provoke all manner of opinion and interpretation. For example, some of the opinions expressed here in regards to aspects of the show [which others have agreed with] are entirely wrong to me.

For example:

1. Sheldon is a great guy. He is loyal & kind. He seems to rub some viewers completely the wrong way but he reminds me very much of someone I worked with who had very strong autism [specifically, Aspergers] and he definitely has strong OCD [and likely a multitude of other things...]. He certainly isn't the 'bad guy'...if anything he is Spock in a sitcom. [Condescending, 'no fun'...remind you of anyone?]

2. I also don't think the show is 'belittling' or 'laughing at' geeks. It is quite the opposite. While the male characters might be socially awkward [you can't seriously say the geek community doesn't have these people] they are also smart, compassionate, successful and they do get the girls/have fun. Have a look at the way TBBT portrays sports fans etc before you claim it is mocking geeks.

So yes, I like the show. I think it is the best U.S sitcom in years [which is saying very little to be honest] but it isn't without its issues. Which are:

1. Jim Parsons in particular, is carrying the show. Many of the others are replaceable/unspectacular. People just like Penny because she is likable and pretty...but she is just the sarcastic, pretty blonde which isn't hard to do.

2. Howard is a complete creep and he drives me nuts. Especially in the first two seasons. Penny punches him and, in another episode, alludes to his actions as being sex-offender-esque. I'm glad they toned him down later on.

3. It's funny...but it frequently isn't THAT funny either. As I said, good sitcom but it is clearly inferior to Frasier [for example].

I used to really enjoy it and the genre-cameos were always a real treat.

However.

I feel like I've seen it all now, the premise is exhausted, the cameos predictable and the humour slightly pained. I think it's time they either knocked it on the head or made it into a movie.

It was fun for a long time, however over time it's... boring would be the wrong word, but it's just not as good what it was in the beginning. Girlfriends and marriages... that's not nerdy!

I have to disagree with this because Penny and Sheldon have a goldmine of chemistry together. She's definitely helping him bear that load.

In fairness, all sitcoms are..

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!

See, I think a lot of different, pretty, blonde actresses could have played that role. It isn't actually a stretch: she makes sarcastic quips and looks pretty.

Parsons is actually having to put real effort into portraying a unique character that very few actors could pull off. The close 2nd for me is Mayim Bialik who, again, is playing a hard role.

Anyway, I think you're selling Cuoco short...that role done poorly could have sunk the show.

I agree, she is the female lead...but I don't think Cuoco is actually being asked to do much that is that challenging for an actress. Penny, Raj & Howard could all have been played by different actors and it would not have made that much of a difference.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree...Cuoco's delivery gets more laughs out of me than anyone else's except Parsons's.

Depends on your age, maybe. Most of my nerdy friends have spouses, kids, and mortgages these days. :)

I would agree with this, since there was another actress in the female lead in an earlier version of the pilot. I watched it on YouTube once, and yeah, the show didn't really work in that form. I'd say that Cuoco adds more than you might think, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like the show very much.

I agree about Cuoco and I don't really feel there is any dead weight in the main cast but some of the plots remind me of episodes of Friends and they have done since the characters began coupling up.
