Are We Having Fun?

I think it's fun to have something new to debate again, rather than rehashing the same old points of view about things that have been around for years.

I wish people would be more accepting of the opinion of others, but much of the discussion is interesting and challenging.

I might not have to hide it any longer! I'm a trekkie!

Well, I can't let it show, not yet. But soon, very soon! Muhaha! :D

I'm having fun. It's been a long time since I've been this excited over Trek. I feel like a teenager again.

While I always appreciate and enjoy this place...yes right now it's even better. I really enjoyed this place when the BSG finale was coming and I'm sure it will be great when the Lost finale comes too.

As far as actual Trek...not only do I feel like a kid again, not only do I think it is a great movie, but I am AMAZED at everything that JJ accomplished in this film in regards to his extremely difficult task of appeasing old fans and wooing new ones.

I mean, Berman and Braga didn't even have to do any of that, and they couldn't make a decent series or last few movies, as far as I'm concerned.

So, I'm really thankful for the care, attention and CASH that has been put into this thing, so that we can finally get a James Bond, Batman level franchise, that I've known Trek was worthy of being for years.

It's priceless to see such a profound dose of pure life-force injected into the Trek franchise and its fanbase. It is great to see the same euphoria I experience in my fellow fans. I've been around the BBS since the time of Voyager's sixth season, and I can honestly say it's never been as joyful as right now.

First off, I'm having a great deal of fun. This movie has reinvigorated my interest in Trek, and it's good to see chatter in here again. In addition, this movie motivated me to get all three of the TOS-Remastered DVD sets, if only to see what came before. Before news of this film came forth, I never would have done that.

Second, I saw the film, and was incredibly satisfied with the result. In some cases, I don't envy Abrams since he was tasked with a really big task of making Trek relevant again to old and new fans. He, Orci, and Kurtzman have done just that. When I see the final scenes, I believe I see one of the finest crews, if not the finest crew in all of Starfleet History, finally come together. I'm excited as to what they do next.

I haven't discussed Trek with any depth here for a few years and that's practically all I've been doing for the past week or so.

I'm definitely having fun!

Sure Im having fun talking Trek again. There are some posters I havent seen post in awhile about Trek. I havent myself very often as of late as well.

I still found the movie mediocre at best though. :(

I'm going to see the movie once a week every week as long as it's in theaters. I just can't get enough of it. I haven't loved Trek this much since DS9 was on air.

Around the time Enterprise ended, I had got fed up with Trek for various reasons. Out went the mountain of books (most of which were unread anyway), cast aside were the toys, down came the posters and the dvds were relegated to an unreachable spot at the back of my shelves.
In the last 4 years i've seen maybe 1 whole episode, played one of the games for a few hours but in the last two weeks i've been to see the film, bought the first 2 seasons of TOSR and haven't stopped playing SFC3 or browsing this site again.
It's brought back this sense of adventure & hope I haven't known for ages. And yes I know how sad that sounds

I agree - my passion is Star Trek has been re-invigorated. Heck, I'm actually posting in a forum other than Gaming!!! :) I've never ben so excited by Star Trek since First Contact! :)

Isn't it great to jabber about Star Trek, enthuse over the good parts of the film (plenty) and nitpick the heck out of any flaws (and there are some)?

I could not agree more. Whether you like it or hate it IT MAKES US RELEVANT AGAIN! Something the last 4 movies failed to do on the same scale.

I'm having a lot of fun with the movie, and it's nice to have a (somewhat) stable place to discuss it in.

:techman:

I'm posting and reading frantically in one of the Trek forums for the first time in ages. Suddenly even modding is fun again. (*Kicks a troll just for the hell of it*)

I might even wear a Trek T short to work... work one to the cinema. Took ages to find it in the bottom of the cupboard. Hell, I could even look out my TNG uniform!

yes. It's FUN!

I thought my love of Trek had all but died. Then I go and see this film and suddenly it's 20 years ago and I can feel myself turning into a Trek fan again. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to cheer. I'm amazed at how this damn film has made me feel. Utterly amazed. I've found something amazing again, and it's... amazing!!! :adore: I love Star Trek.

It's rewarding to be a Trek fan right now and see the positive press that Trek is getting. For so long, Trek has been marginalized by the public as "nerdy". It isn't cool to like Star Trek. It's all cerebral and sci-fi and Klingons and William Shatner. It's campy and filled with technobabble. If you admit to watching Star Trek, you're immediately labeled as a geek, nerd, loser or something.

Fans have stuck with it for all of thes years, watching shows and feature films that lack of the commercial success of other franchises like Star Wars. In recent years, the last several Trek projects have been creative and commercial failures (INS and NEM didn't exactly become bluckbusters at the theaters, and VOY and ENT were marginal successes on TV and that's only by UPN standards). NEM's box office failure and fan backlash, coupled with ENT's cancellation, put the franchise on life support. Where do we go from here?

Fast forward to today. The franchise has been given new life, thanks to a brand-new creative team led by talented people like Abrams, Orzi and Kurtzman. The new feature film has generated a lot of buzz, stirred up a lot of promotion, and has received an overwhelmingly-positive reaction from critics. The average joe is going to the theater to see this new incarnation of Trek. The box office estimates are staggering - Trek has never experienced this kind of success since I've been a fan.

This says something about the power of the Trek franchise. These characters and these stories, if placed in the right hands and treated well, can have huge appeal.
