Are we allowed to like the Ferengi?

This is a good place to discuss Star Trek. But like most places on the internet, one should have a thick skin because not everyone is going to agree with you.

That’s fine.
I just don’t like it when my posts are removed and I get banned by Mods

If you mean the Aliens no, if you mean their way of life that won’t go down well here.

That last sentence is going to get you banned as you’ve pretty much admitted to being a dual account.

I don’t understand. “Dual account”?

is this referring to me?

A major what? You've left me hangin' here, man. ;)
Major issue. Sorry. Anti-Ferengi bias on the internet is something that's very close to my heart and is something I feel very strongly about so my proofreading took a nosedive there.

I had a great-aunt who was half-Ferengi and the abuse she suffered online... In fact it's still too raw to talk about.

ROM FAN 4 LYFE.

OH ROM!

I think the Ferengi weren't always handled the best (even on DS9) and a lot what the writers did...or rather attempted..with them was pretty silly (I will forever cringe at the scene where Quark claims the Ferengi didn't have wars or slaves, I do not believe that one bit!). In addition to that their culture is pretty vile.

But I'd also name Nog, Rom and Quark among the Star Trek characters I really like. Moogie too. And Pel was also quite interesting and had heaps of potential.
I'd also say all three Nog, Rom and Quark had positive character traits (to varying degrees) or developed into (by our standards) more moral people over the seven seasons.
What I also like is that with the Ferengi we saw a culture in a sate of change from hyper capitalist and misogynistic to one that slowly developed more egalitarian ideas. And it's nice to see that even a culture like that can change and improve.
Sure that development was a bit too fast and came a bout for silly reasons, but well...90s television....at least it was an attempt.

The rest of us have argued about Star Trek for years and the vast majority of us have never gotten banned. I think you can manage.

It depends on the version of the Ferengi. Most of them time they're played as cartoonish exaggerated stereotypes. But Quark has his share of brilliant moments where he calls the Federation out on certain hypocrisies.

I love what DS9 did with the Farengi and I think The Rules of Acquisition is one of the best ideas Star Trek has ever come up with. Were they cartoonish? Sometimes, but sometimes they were always really interesting in terms of a look into the real world and the pros and cons of capitalism.
