Are there fans of Star Trek V?

I would have liked it more if McCoy didn't cuss as much as he did, that ruined it for me. And those little jokes that were slid in there that was not in Shatner's original script were not that funny either.
Huh? If memory serves, he doesn't swear any more in this movie than he does in the other Trek films. I mean, I think he says "you piss me off" in this movie (which he doesn't in any othe others), but that's pretty tame compared to his language in the (G-rated) Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which has "hell"s, "damn"s, and, I think, even a "goddamn" or two.

I liked McCoy's cussing, and I thought he (DEE) gave his greatest TREK performances in this movie. THAT alone makes TREK V better than Nemesis and Insurrection...

Oh, I never understood everyone's hatred of this film. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either, and I think that its heart was in the right place.

And apparently that place is also the same place where God lives. Inside your chest.

Maybe THAT was what was giving me indigestion last night.

Better in your chest than up on some remote cloud.

Overall, I think this movie had a bad script (not the directors fault which was William Shatner) but terrific directing.

I think Shatner did a tremendously good job given the bad quality of the script, he probably gave the character to the scenes most enjoyed in the movies. I found the 'feel' of the movie great, better than most trek movies that way, but that's thanks to the director.

The story and script itself, damn bad, damn damn bad.

It does have a lot of good moments, but a lot of bad elements as well. Not the worst of the bunch, but not far from it:klingon:

It's a metaphor.

I like some things about Trek V, although I don't care for the movie overall:

* Kirk, Spock and McCoy's camping scenes -- Great character moments.
* The scenes in which Spock and McCoy share their pain -- This gave De Kelley a chance to shine. What would Kirk's pain have been?
* The bald Nimbus guy's stupid smile when Sybok reveals his Vulcan ears at the beginning of the film. It's just funny.
* The production design of the Enterprise and Okrona bridges. I thought the new Enterrpise bridge looked something like a news room, but it was a fresh look for the space. The periscope in the Okrona's bridge was fun. (I got the name "Okrona" from the novelization.)
* Klaa's hair. He looked like a bipedal pomeranian!

^Klaa's hair made him look like an escapee from an 80s hair band.

You aren't too off with the newsroom comparison; I remember the set of the NBC Nightly News had a sort of Trek-ish look to it for much of the 90s. The 90s-era set of Dateline NBC had all these panels along the bottom of the windows displaying someting that looked suspiciously like Okudagrams, too.

Hmmm...that might account for the crack on Murphy Brown... "This would be a great newsroom for the Klingons..."
