Is it possible the Ardanans didn't call attention to their caste system and the Federation at the time didn't conduct sufficiently due diligence?
That fits given the gaps in knowledge about Vulcan life and culture, and that was a founding member!

TBF, the Trek franchise is replete with Our Heroes being placed in scenarios where they end up acting against their will, android or not. "Power Play" being a prominent example, but going back at least as early as "Dagger of the Mind".Agree, good thing there was only one Data in the fleet. You could hack into him too easily.
As can hacking Data. Most of the time, it's not long-term and can be counteracted.
After that hacking incident Data should have been removed from the Enterprise entirely. As can hacking Data.
I'm still not sure how hacking Data is fundamentally different from the rest of the crew falling under alien possession or what-not?After that hacking incident Data should have been removed from the Enterprise entirely.
Because Data by himself can do the job of dozens of other people at the same time.I'm still not sure how hacking Data is fundamentally different from the rest of the crew falling under alien possession or what-not?
Though, do you think Picard should have been removed from command after BoBW?
Just remove him from the chain of command and two factor authorization for lock out commands. After that hacking incident Data should have been removed from the Enterprise entirely.
I'd say ever since TOS it hasbeen a problem.I'm still not sure how hacking Data is fundamentally different from the rest of the crew falling under alien possession or what-not?
Definitely.Though, do you think Picard should have been removed from command after BoBW?
Well into the 32nd, since the Emerald Chain seized Discovery with relative ease, and they didn't even have the crew cooperating with them for the most part.I'd say ever since TOS it hasbeen a problem.
Unknown entities taking over Starfleet ships seems to be a problem that hasn't been solved well into the 25th century!
I have watched all of DSC just once, the only episode I repeat is the last 30 secs of the series premiere cuz that scene is cool.Well into the 32nd, since the Emerald Chain seized Discovery with relative ease, and they didn't even have the crew cooperating with them for the most part.
Which makes him very dangerousBecause Data by himself can do the job of dozens of other people at the same time.
Like in "Brothers"... something like that would have taken a minimum of half a dozen people working in perfect synchronicity with a prearranged plan. Data did it by himself... on the fly.
Well, "acting first officer Ensign Sylvia Tilly" was clearly and obviously setting up Discovery to be taken over down the line. At least it seemed so to me at the time. Also, consider that at this point in the timeline, Emerald Chain technology and scientific resources outreached that of the Federation.Well into the 32nd, since the Emerald Chain seized Discovery with relative ease, and they didn't even have the crew cooperating with them for the most part.
/ThreadA planet not wishing to join the Federation with no other explanation than "we don't feel like it" is a good enough reason in and of itself, and should be respected.

Correct. It's useless cuz The Burn(ham) is gonna destroy the galaxy in the 31st century anyways./Thread
