Anyone Use the Waze GPS App?

Starfleet Engineer

I just downloaded it and am frustrated with it. I can't just enter in a starting point and an ending point. It appears that you can only use your current position as the starting point. So, if I want to know the distance from the corner store to the police station, but I'm sitting on my couch, it won't let me do it. If you use Waze, is this true?

Waze is not as good as Google Maps but, but you can get Ichabod Crane to give you directions. You can choose him or even Terry Crews as the voice of navigation.

Google bought Waze last year. They've been slowly integrating features into Google like rerouting around known traffic. I expect them to merge here pretty soon.

Waze is strictly for real-time road navigation. That's what it's for. It's very good at that. I switched to it recently because Google Maps started fucking up on my phone--it kept failing to sense when I would turn or merge and so it would recalculate the route based on the assumption I'd missed the previous direction, then figure out I hadn't, then recalculate again. More than once, this caused me to miss later directions and generally pissed me off. Some update to the Maps app seems to have caused it and it's still there.

I switched to Waze out of frustration and it never has this problem. It always detects properly when I've taken a turn or missed one.

If you just want to know how to get from one arbitrary location to another arbitrary location, you'll have to use Google Maps or something else, just not Waze.
