Waze is strictly for real-time road navigation. That's what it's for. It's very good at that. I switched to it recently because Google Maps started fucking up on my phone--it kept failing to sense when I would turn or merge and so it would recalculate the route based on the assumption I'd missed the previous direction, then figure out I hadn't, then recalculate again. More than once, this caused me to miss later directions and generally pissed me off. Some update to the Maps app seems to have caused it and it's still there.
I switched to Waze out of frustration and it never has this problem. It always detects properly when I've taken a turn or missed one.
If you just want to know how to get from one arbitrary location to another arbitrary location, you'll have to use Google Maps or something else, just not Waze.
