Anyone sad we can't see this crew on a weekly basis?

indranee, much as I'd like a show, I agree with you. I don't see how they could make a series and keep the sparkle. It will be difficult enough to make good sequels. But you're right; around the world, Star Trek is TOS.

Jeri, you mean a movie series? yes, they could if they space them out and make them well. but no way will they be able to keep the shine with a TV series. no way.

Now wait a minute--Dexter is an example of what they could do. 12-13 episodes of the highest caliber a year. Not talking about volume, but quality.

Unless you don't like Dexter (or an equivalent show on ppv), that is.

No, wouldn't work. We just finished an 18 year stint of constant Star Trek on TV. If you want to kill the buzz, the fastest way would to be to go back to TV.

I would be just fine without a nuTrek TV series.I believe placing the characters in a TV format would cheapen the value of the movie ,AND keeping things in movie format will make the audience impact that mich better versus demanding the writing staff to be creative every week for 5 years or more *without* recycling storylines.
I don't see how you can say that movie format allows for more creative and tighter writing. Orci & Kurtzman had two years or so to develop this script and I have to say I've seen weekly series that have to churn out scripts on a grueling weekly schedule that were better written. I don't think it would be difficult to create new storylines for a 18 episode season but I think the key to doing that would be to adopt season long storylines rather than standalones. The temptation would be too much to draw on earlier stories from TOS and TNG. DS9 was never better than when it developed its own mythology within the Trek universe with the Dominion War and ENT blossomed after it did the season long Xindi arc and then the epic trilogies/duologies of season four.

Also if a film is weak then that is what sits with the audience for two or three years as opposed to a weekly series where an occasional weak script can quickly be forgotten or seen as a blip when surrounded by stronger episodes.

I wouldn't want Orci & Kurtzman in charge of a new Trek series based on XI and I wouldn't want this cast on a weekly series. First of all I doubt many would want to and if they don't that means another round of recasting of TOS characters which I think would be pushing it.
