Anyone sad we can't see this crew on a weekly basis?

see this crew on a weekly basis?

I'm not saying I'd necessarily prefer a TV series to the movies, but I'd love to see these actors play their roles on a more frequent basis.

The only way that would happen is if Paramount green-lit two movies shot back-to-back to have the fastest possible release schedule in the next 2 1/2 years. [like Pirates of the Carribbean 2 & 3 / Back to the Future 2 & 3]
This discussion over in Future of Trek ongoing since March covers the feature film actors starting out in a Trek franchise as a feature and the thought of moving to television.

The only problem I could see with shooting the 2nd and 3rd movies at the same time is I would be afraid spoilers for the third movie would leak years before its release. Would be hard to keep a lid on it.

Yep. I feel cheated that we get them, what, every TWO FRAKKIN YEARS???

That's almost as bad as not at all. Almost. :p

See NuKirk every week? No thank you. I find school bullies with more dignity and a sense of morality than NuKirk. He's a douche bag.

They only scratched the surface of his complexity near the end, when he showed compassion towards Nero, or tried to.

For what I can remember, it seem the rescue offer didn't seem genuine at all. For Kirk, and Spock(!), it seem like it was all a big joke.

The offer of rescue was largely the same as in every other such situation. Kirk even explained why the offer made sense in that situation. The only significant difference was that in most series, the captain would wait until the enemy ship fired one last time. This time, Kirk waited for the refusal and then finished off a ship that had already survived passage through one black hole and still retained a significant threat. The only thing that makes it a "joke" is Spock's response, which might not fit some versions of Spock, but actually isn't that far from the way the character developed over time.

I would love the new cast in a series. They had a lot of chemistry just in the two hour movie. It'd be awesome to see what they could do in a series. Won't ever happen, but we can dream.

If it didn't seem genuine it's because he knew Nero wouldn't accept it and neither did anyone in the theatre.

What would you have them do--beg a war criminal who destroyed an entire world to allow them to rescue him?

Not sure that makes any sense. And Spock of course was not amenable to saving this guy for that obvious reason.

Hey, there's an old saying... you made your bed--now sleep in it.

For what I can remember its also the reaction of Kirk to it (to Spock's response). It was as if he was saying: "you see, Spock, between logic and lust for revenge, even yourself are choosing revenge". Ok, they didn't say that. But the way they trade smiles and pleasantry over the offers, gives me the impression the offer wasn't genuine at all.

But is it really that out of character? We saw Kirk offer to save Krudge in Trek III until the Klingon kept trying to pull him into the lava. Or was Kirk being insincere there?

I saw and perceived the exchange between them as you did only for me the offer was very genuine in the sense that, if Nero had said "Okay, I need some help", they would have helped him, regardless of the fact that he had killed Kirk's father and Spock's mother (and doesn't this fact creates a link between them that wasn't there in TOS?), not to mention destroyed Vulcan.
But it's true that they never really believed, making that offer, that Nero would accept. One could say that they didn't want him to accept.

Was I the only one to see the Kirk of TOS when nuKirk made that offer? That's why when we see him promoted captain of the Enterprise, it wasn't so out of there for me.

We saw the same Kirk here that we did in STIII, when he offered to work with the person responsible for the death of Kirk's only (known) son.

Note: I didn't catch that someone made this same point two posts above (which shows that my scrolling skills need work).

I would be just fine without a nuTrek TV series.I believe placing the characters in a TV format would cheapen the value of the movie ,AND keeping things in movie format will make the audience impact that mich better versus demanding the writing staff to be creative every week for 5 years or more *without* recycling storylines.

Well, maybe until the next movie has come out--because after that, the audience will be so built-in that a television series wouldn't make a difference.

hmm. maybe. if it's a megahit, they wouldn't want to have a TV series before at least another one. I think they should stay with the movies until this cast gets another decade older. then, they should recast and/or go with the flow.

look, I've been thinking... I think ENT failed partly because it really is the TOS cast people still... STILL... want to see. who knows what they'll want to see in ten years? but bringing this cast into TV will somehow let that shine dull a bit. it's not time to do that, just yet, IMO. this is a big screen cast. let 'em stay there for a while.

But... but... but in 10 years, my prostate may be the size of a grapefruit! :(
