Anyone sad we can't see this crew on a weekly basis?

Not really. If they can't buy some action with a coherent story 150 million dollars I shudder to think what we'd see on a TV budget.

Has anyone tried watching an episode from the original Star Trek shortly after seeing the new movie? I watched "Space Seed" the evening after I saw the movie for the second time, and I found that had little trouble imagining the cast I'd just seen in their places, particularly when the good-natured ribbing between Kirk, Spock, and Bones got going:

"The Eugenics Wars."

"Of course. Your attempt to improve the race through selective breeding."

"Now, wait a minute. Not our attempt, Mr. Spock. A group of ambitious scientists. I'm sure you know the type. Devoted to logic, completely unemotional--"

"All right, gentlemen; as you were."

I think the movie laid the foundation for that kind of relationship between the three quite well-- the original series just shows them with a bit more maturity that will come with time.

I agree that Scotty and Chekov were basically just comic foils in the movie, but that didn't bother me because they were not really main characters on the level of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy on the main show. And I really thought the writers and actors nailed those characters.

Seeing a new adventure with this crew has me looking forward to rewatching the whole series in light of it. :)

Yep. I feel cheated that we get them, what, every TWO FRAKKIN YEARS???

That's almost as bad as not at all. Almost. :p

See NuKirk every week? No thank you. I find school bullies with more dignity and a sense of morality than NuKirk. He's a douche bag.

They only scratched the surface of his complexity near the end, when he showed compassion towards Nero, or tried to. There's a lot more to him than just the bossy, rather maniacal rule-breaker that we got a glimpse of.

And the need for Kirk to be developed over time is a major frustration that he's only going to be in movies. Sure, we can start seeing more development, shoehorned inbetween the action scenes. How much can they accomplish really? The eyedropper approach will be excruciating.

I'm not saying I'd necessarily prefer a TV series to the movies, but I'd love to see these actors play their roles on a more frequent basis.

My only complaint about this movie is that i want to see the next installment next week!

I just returned from viewing #10, and I'm pretty sure if I didn't want more, I wouldn't be doing that. It hurts that it's going to be so long.

But haven't Scotty and Chekov already been the comic foils in the past not so much as this movie but still.

No. Except for Mccoy and maybe Pike. The rest of the characters werent played very well. Scotty and Chekov were now comedic buffons.

When was Chekov not a comedic buffoon? As for this Scotty, even at that young age he's already considered one of the brightest minds in the mythos.

Spock was an emotional mess.

I bet you would be, too, if you were picked on for all your life and your only emotional anchor died just mere inches from your fingertips.

yeah, exactly... Russian Davy Jones and the fat, drunk Scotsman were somewhat more offensive than the new incarnations of the two, to me anyways.

Ya It would be pretty cool. I am glad the movie was a success but it stinks we will only be seeing new Trek every 3 years or so if we are lucky! :(

DITO  but only if they could get the STXI cast... I'm still getting used to the new crew (though the new actors all do a fantastic job), someone else playing Spock or Krk in a TV show would kill it for me.

At the moment, personally, I think that it needs to be taken one step at a time. Don't overwhelm people with too much Trek at once. I don't think a new series should even be considered until (at the earliest) 2012 with 2015 being a better choice.

I'm not, really. It would be nice to see a TV show, but I think it's important that we stick with movies for a while. If we switch to TV again, then it runs the risk of falling back into the weekly same-old, same-old. Movies give the writers more flexibility and more options. We should just stick to the movies for a while, and then eventually maybe return to the television.
I agree with you on this, though I've not seen the movie for a week (and won't until the DVD release as it's no longer played in nearby theatres) and I'm already in withdrawl. I try to compensate by re-watching TOS (and I watch STXI trailers regularly. It's pathetic, I know).

Yep. I sometimes have these strange flashes while watching a TOS ep and I can picture the new cast in place of the original. For me, that's a sign that the cast was well done. The only one I can't picture in place of the original is nuChekov. He's too different from the other one (and that's a good thing, IMO). I had completely forgotten about Chekov's hairdo until I re-watched "Amok Time". What were they thinking?

At the end of Star Trek, I was ready for that first mission to begin, like I'd just gotten warmed up...
Same here. I wanted to watch a mission with the nuCrew

I agree they have the talent to make it work ,think they pulled it off and i love to see them more then every 2 yrs ,mini tv series with a movie now and then would be good way to go .

For what I can remember, it seem the rescue offer didn't seem genuine at all. For Kirk, and Spock(!), it seem like it was all a big joke.

I'd be satisfied if they just stuck to movies for now. But I hope it doesn't end up as a trilogy or something, because I'd love to see the nuCrew in more than just three films!

As for Trek Tv...I would probably enjoy a Robau led series.

If nuCrew were to be on a tv series, I'd definitely go for that too. But I don't know if I'd want them to do a regular 20-something episode season. Maybe more like BSG's first season or nuDoctor Who -a 12 or 13 episode season. Also, after a second or third movie. That way there isn't too much Trek being aimed at viewers or something.

But wouldn't it be nice watching him grow from the brash, impetuous young captain he is now into the more mature and seasoned Kirk we know from the five year mission?

I wouldn't mind seeing a Robau/George Kirk show on TV. but leave the main guys on the silver screen. they belong there.

Exactly. My vote would follow the adventures of the Kelvin prime. We know they survived in the original timeline, it takes place about twenty five years before the movie in it's own relatively untouched time period, and anything they do wouldn't have to have any bearing on the theatrical adventures. The only problem I would see is getting the suits to grasp the concept or marketability of two different timelines running at once.
