Anyone Here Excited For the Fantastic Four Movie?

The first Season is pretty fun, and has this Military vibe to it that feels completely Cameron. The second season is just batshit insane and I'm not really sure what they were thinking when they came up with it.

They were trying to do X-Men comics, which is an interchangeable metaphor for most minorities.

Outliers, banding together despite forceful oppression and institutional resistance.

The Doug Liman story is interesting. I had wondered how the guy who made the first Bourne also made something as mediocre as Jumper.

It sounds like the production was a perfect shit-storm. Interesting to compare FF with Beyond, which also had its backstage shenanigans, but now seems to be a big lovefest.

I thought of Trank/tank prior to opening day, or maybe the instant he posted his infamous tweet, as probably did the missing millions of ticket non-holders. I didn't use it here or anywhere else because I felt it to be so blatantly obvious and groan-inducing that it would be an embarrassment to use something so uncreatively schoolyard, and retroactively trite. But, what the hell, go for it.

That's why I thought it might catch on, for the exact reasons you say. You can even substitute it for other thinks like "you Tranked the pooch" and TUBAR.

One thing that really bothers me about this movie and the treatment of the characters, the same thing Sony did just a few years ago, is they are established. I think it's safe to have a reboot and not spend the whole damn movie on their "origin" Did we really need ASM? no. And now there's this one. If they just had these actors and had the movie start from the 1 year later point I doubt that anyone would be sitting there saying, "Gee, Jessica Alba looks different" or some such thinking it's a direct continuation of a movie 8 years ago. It was totally unnecessary to go that route but that's where they went.

People are saying, Marvel can use these characters until after 2023 even if they get the rights back, I submit that's stupid. They could drop them unintroduced into any Marvel feature and almost everyone would know who they are in seconds, and those dumb people would be told who they are by everyone else. They don't need to be the center of the story, they could even be "unnecessary characters" but the fact they are there is enough introduction for them to get the center stage at a later time or maybe have a cross over tv show. I'd also like if they could have rather than a weekly show a series of tv movies like 3 or 4 a year. I think they could make that work. They made major characters from Rocket, Groot and Peggy Carter, they can do it for the FF.

Also, besides "canon" and "iconic", add "gritty" to my list of words I am completely tired of.

Yeah origin stories that are similar and repeat themselves every few years with a new reboot is getting tired. When they decide to make a new spider-man movie with the new kid it would be folly for them to do another origin story or even a flashback. All the viewer would need is peter talking to someone about it or even just looking at a article about his uncles death and him maybe thinking about the accident that caused him to gain his powers. Basically no filmed bit flashback or otherwise. Best thing would be for him to explain to Banner or Stark how he got his powers and keep names out of it. That's all we need.

And what about the 12 year olds who might not buy a McDonalds Happymeal because they're too confused to feel hungry?

McDonalds can get people fired and contracts shredded.

Just ask Tim Burton.

They could do it even more easily than that, with a 30 second montage at the start of the movie: Peter gets bitten, goes through physical changes, puts on mask. Bring up title "Spiderman". Job done.

Yeah as long as we don't have to see a whole movie dedicated to his origin yet again.

I wasn't confused, but it was a little off that the (2008) Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon started without even a hint of an origin. Ultimate Spider-Man, the current cartoon, started with a fully established Spider-Man who Nicky Fury called a ####up, So much so that Spider-Man signed up for S.H.I.E.L.D. training to become the Ultimate Spider-man for a world where Amazing is no longer good enough.

Where do you go once you are the Ultimate Spiderman? After that, there is nowhere to go but down.

EDIT: Stupid f***ing hyphen.

Well, he becomes the team leader of the Web-Warriors obviously.

Teen versions of White Tiger, Power-Man, Iron Fist and Nova even went so far as to go to school with Peter and move in with Aunt May after the dormitories in the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier ("Hero School") were done blown up.

Peter had some Sliding adventures cross dimensionally a few months back.

Look who the hell he met!
