Anyone Here Excited For the Fantastic Four Movie?

Re: Director(Josh Trank)Not Responsible For Fantastic Four 2015 Movie?

Why does this need its own thread? Already been discussed in both the review thread and the original discussion thread.

Its a specific topic. Maybe others didn't know about it when its hidden in other threads. This will give everyone a opportunity to discuss this recent news.

It's a four part interview actually. I started listening to part two today. Josh Trank comes off surprisingly level headed and cool given all the horrible press about him.

The reviews are horrible. I didn't have any interest to see this 2 months ago now I know I won't go. He should have followed the original FF source material. Maybe I will listen to the interview I have a feeling its better than the movie.

Due to the sheer number of potential properties discussed in this forum, we've been having folks consolidating threads as best they can.

I'm more interested in it than in anything else coming out this summer, yeah.
Looking at the general response here, the other thread, and reviews, I really have to wonder if that's a negative comment on all the other films out this summer.

Re: Director(Josh Trank)Not Responsible For Fantastic Four 2015 Movie?

Trank should have followed the source material and listened to what fans wanted.

That is NEVER good advice for any artistic endeavour (with commercial aims or not). I had no particular interest in this movie, so I'll likely wait for the rental. Even if I end up hating the movie, the one thing I will never criticize the filmmakers for is "not listening to the fans".

It seems to be working for Star Wars and The Evil Dead franchises if the previews tell us anything. They are giving the fans what they want. Star Wars we are going back to basics with a lot of conventional effects and of course the original characters from SW 77. The evil dead franchise is going back to the original Ash without some remake and the preview looks fantastic and in line what fans have been clamoring for.

Sometimes what fans want need to be listened to or a filmmaker will have to take his lumps and not complain if his property tanks. The FF film is still expected to make some coin so Trank still has a chance.

I hear this quite a lot here. I'm not sure why, since criticism of Trek, and just about anything, is rampant, but it has become repeated often enough here to be trite advice - and I don't believe it to be true at all, or at least not so absolutely as "NEVER." There's plenty of crap left behind by moviemakers who failed for being tone deaf or stupidly/transparently contrary or antagonistic/contemptuous to their audience.

I haven't been following the Ash series, so I can't speak to that. But the plan for Star Wars was always to return to the original cast if they made a sequel trilogy. There are quotes of Hamill saying that back sometime during Empire or Jedi that if Lucas made sequels, they'd have Luke back in the Obi-Wan role. Do we know the extent Ford, Hamill and Fisher are involved in the trilogy? My guess is that while we'll probably see Ford play a key character in TFA, the others will be supporting players to Boyega, Ridley and Isaac.

I'm the last person to defend the contrarian in question but, as far as I know, he was responsible for writing one of the better TNG episodes. "Reading" one of Knowles' reviews would most likely result in bleeding from the eyes and temporary insanity.

I mean, THIS is actually the first sentence of the second paragraph of his FF movie "review";

"Instead of focusing on what isn’t here, what this film isn’t."

Really.

:wtf:

That's a sentence from a "professional" review that somebody got paid for.

That hurts.

Hey,man, all kidding aside, I'd never imply Dennis-or anyone here-writes as poorly as Harry Knowles. I'm cruel but I'm not that cruel.

I wasn't implying that either - I meant that if it hurts MY eyes to read that tripe, imagine how it must scan to a professional?

Fair enough. I just didn't want the implication out there. And poor Dennis is already probably wounded enough by sitting through this movie, smiling though gritted teeth and softly repeating "it's not so bad, it's not so bad, it's not so bad..."
