Anyone from Colorado?

Preferably Colorado Springs?

I have wanted to move out of the humid, hot, sandbar with delusions of grandeur that is the state of Florida for years. Tired of the heat, tired of the traffic, tired of the lack of seasons.

I have visited Colorado and in particular Colorado Springs a few times and I like the area. Civilized, but with easy access to the mountains that are oh so lacking in FL.

I want a view of Pikes Peak to stare at. I want it to be cold on Christmas and not have to run the AC year round.

So, soon I will be coming into a small sum of money that will allow me to make the transition. My problem is this: how do you get a place to stay while looking for a job? Rentals always want proof of employment regardless of how much cash you flash. Maybe there are some decent short term (monthly) rentals?

Also, how is the job market out there for IT, particularly System Admins?

I'm not from Colorado Springs but from past experience (working in London and moving to Saskatoon) there are usually short-term rentals available that don't require proof of employment - you book them just like a hotel (they're set up for people working somewhere for just a few months). The monthly rate is higher than a normal apartment but it's somewhere to go straightaway.

I did a quick google search of short term rentals colorado springs, and found this:

Hope it helps. Good luck with your move :)

I lived in Pueblo (40 miles south of the Springs) for almost nine years. SO glad we moved back to California when I was ten. I went back to visit a few years later and all my best friends had become rednecks.

But it was beautiful there in the fall and at Christmas time.

I live in the Denver, and I think you might be making a mistake by limiting yourself to just Colorado Springs. There is nothing wrong with the Springs in general, but it's a much smaller area. The Denver metro area is probably 5 - 6 times bigger than the CS metro area and has a lot more employment opportunities.
Downtown Denver, Denver Tech Center, Boulder, Longmont, Lafayette, and Broomfield all have pretty sizable companies, while the Springs is still largely military. Nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't have as much of a corporate presence.
One suggestion would be to live in Castle Rock or Parker and work in the Denver Tech center. You can still see Pikes Peak from both places, it just takes a bit longer to get there. From my house in the northern end of Denver it takes me approximately 1.5 hours to get to Manitou Springs, the town at the base of Pikes Peak. Sorry I can't tell you anything about system admin jobs though, but check the usual sources, you'll find something.

Still lots of nice mountain scenery in Denver, especially on the west side.

So many coloradoans! I had no idea. I'm still trying to figure that out myself. After I'm done with school in Pueblo I have to go back home to the Springs. Most likely I'll have to live with my mother while I look for a place so actually I could use some help in this as well! Maybe I'll just go to denver.

Boulder is beautiful - I went on holiday there once. I'd love to go back.

I lived in Colorado Springs for 11 years but left 12 years ago. I can't really answer the questions you posed but I will be curious to hear what people have to say.
