Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks etc

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Neither do I personally, but for those people who want everything to look exactly like it did 40 years ago with only better visuals there is.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

We're only one movie away! We already got one GRAMPA on board for this movie, maybe the Shat can come around next time:

HolyTomato, exactly how many posts are you planning to make like this?

Because you are posting nonsensical posts like this ALOT...and they are starting to border on spam.

If you have something productive to say, the say it, but please cut back on posts like this.

Thanks.

Well thats the problem of recreating the same type of thing 40 years apart. The purists will always have their DVDs and memories, that will never change.
There's something almost infantile about thinking something be recreated 4o years later is going to be exactly the same especially when talking about the future. With something be set in the past it makes sense. But this is a fantastical future. No way will it be the same as it would be laughed at out loud.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Without a doubt, I for one couldnt be happier with the changes I've seen so far. A ship that nolonger looks like it was built before Archers Enterprise, new uniforms, new consoles. I can't wait to see what else has been changed.

It seems that according to Robert Orci in the recent Q&A session over at Trekmovie.com that the 60's style trek "never happened that way" approach has been taken with ST:XI (or Star Trek Zero or just plain Star Trek).

Which I think is possibly the most annoying thing about this new movie. Reboots are fine: the new fans are getting what they want, and the classic folk get to keep what they like. But with the "our film is better than TOS" mentality...

Obviously, nothing is going to change. TOS is still TOS, and us old guard can choose to just ignore Trek Zero and its sequels/spin-offs. However it still sits uneasily with me that people lambasted Berman and Braga for bending continuity a little, yet Abrams and co are (according to Orci) deliberately attempting to overwrite it and no-one bats an eyelid.

They never said or implied anything of the sort. In fact, the reverence for TOS from JJ and Company I find to be very impressive and genuine.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I think that to a certain extent, fans have to let go of "continuity". Not the whole idea, but I think it is very difficult to write a story with a universe as explained as the Trek one is. You think about it, there are 28 years of TV, 10 movies and countless small references to a million different people, planets, technology, etc.
How can you write anything fresh and creative and new with all of those rules?
I am excited to have Abrams take the most important parts of continuity and make a new universe...

While I disagree totally that it would be impossible to do a new Star Trek story set in the existing canon, the problem is that they aren't just doing a film in their own Trek universe. They're doing one in the existing canon, but telling the fans that the look of the classic TOS show is incorrect and that their version is 'right'.

This is not true!

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I am in agreement with Arlo and ST-One. I didn't see anything to say "TOS is wrong and our version is right". All I saw was massive respect for the TOS and a desire to stay loyal while giving it an updated look. I mean, it's 40 years later, and they have a HUGE budget. I have a hard time imagining that they would stick with the old looks.

Who is this Archer you speak of?

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Well, I don't think one is better. I think that the 60's look was right then....and to do that now would be wrong...You have to update it. It has to be different.
Have they actually said: What they created in the 60's was stupid and wrong?

Some dude some guy created to try to mess up the timeline.

Seriously tho if you want the Enterprise to look like it did 40 years ago? I WILL PAY FOR IT. I belive in a TOS episode commentry I heard that the cost of filming an episode of TOS was the equivilnt of feeding the cast and crew for a week.

Personally Id pefer a multi million dollar production with a few visual changes :-P

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Besides apologizing to Mr. Orci for leaving the "o" off the end of his first name in my last post, I should clarify that the 60's trek "never happened that way" remark was made by a "Dr. Image" who very craftily formatted a question containing the above comment, amongst others, with an end statement assuming the studio had wanted things a certain way (ie. re-styled). I took Mr. Orci's response, that instead the studio had "approved" essentially what Dr. Image had referred to, as tacit acknowledgement of the assertions made.

Should Spock be an emotionally red skinned Martian?

Should James Kirk's middle initial be an R?

Should Uhura wear pants?

Remember, these are canon.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

In the comics Spock was emotional and stuff at this time. It was only after The Cage that he purged his human side...

Wonder if the movie will concider that idea. It would be nice to see Spock laugh and smile and stuff yet at the same time a little distubing because it's not what I remember him being like.
