Is Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, online info etc ?


There are things about J.J. Abrams style, his writing and things about his film making that I adore. I think some of his work is great but I'm not a big fan of his other stuff like Forever Young, Lost etc. I found Cloverfield to be very over-rated, if you don't like the cryptic Lost stuff or the whole Godzilla/BlairWitch style you should avoid the movie because you will find it is not what its hyped up to be. I enjoyed Roberto Orci's MissionImpossible-3 (even though the scientology freak Cruise was in it)
I enjoy some of his work but I'm not really a fans of his other stuff and didn't care much for the tv series Alias.

Leaked photos of Enterprise didn't do much for me (perhaps deliberately leaked and part of this online marketing )
The ship is too dull, too goth, too dark or whatever you call it. The photos I've seen show a ship much like Aliens or the Re-Imagined BSG. I'm also disappointed that Bill Shatner won't be anywhere near the film. If this is the case and we get another ship with dark dialogue, dark sub plots and shades of dark and gray like the Enterprise show or the StarTrekNemesis movie then I feel they have lost the spirit of Trek and I don't want to watch some dark, humorless movie.

I feel viral online marketing campaigns aren't really for us Trek fans, if the movie is good we will watch it and we would rather the marketing money got spent on good props, good script and good fx.

Maybe the rumors are wrong
maybe it looks dark and dirty because they are building the 'new' Enterprise in a shipyard.
Maybe I've got it all wrong and this will be the great Trek movie of them all ?

No, I love the look of the new Ent, I think the teaser was great, have a good feeling about this and... oh yes, I'm really excited about the whole thing. It's going to be very cool.

No. I'm not dissapointed. What I've seen is about what I expected...and it's acceptable so far.

By the way, which leaked photos do you mean? I'd like to see more of the Enterprise other than the video stills from the Teaser trailer if there are other photos out there.

Have there really been any leaked photos of the ship? I'm not counting somebody using their cellphone to record the teaser and uploading that to youtube.

I'm frankly surprised pictures of the uniforms haven't leaked yet.

Well, there were some -- of actors in costume -- captured on film (or digitally) a few weeks ago. Nothing about the standard duty uniforms, admittedly, afaik.

Nope I wasn't expecting a replica by any means and I'm sure when we get better shots of everything we might find that in many ways its a more modernized version of old things so it looks right on a huge screen. There will be echoes of old designs but not a copy and paste job.

The security around the film is so great that it might work against it as people try to find more info and get a big fat zero, unlike Colverfield this is Star Trek, people know what it is, and to keep so much of it secret only must fustrate many people who WANT to know more but can't.

As an original fan that saw TOS first run when I was a kid, honestly, no. The more I see and hear about whats being done, the more I honestly want to see the finished film. And, I was not a big fan of the idea when all this stuff started.

Does this mean the film will actually BE a good film? No. But, I'll reserve that judgement until I see the finished product. From what's been shown and stated, this will NOT be a slavish re-do of 1960ies Star Trek; but given the film is being made in 2008, and the main roles from that TV series are being recast; there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I seems the basic core of Star Trek from the 1960ies are being adhered to( ie the StarShip Enterprise, the 'Big 3 - Kirk, Spock, McCoy', and a rousing adventiure in Space); and (imo) that's all that it should really need to be Star Trek.

I honestly just hope they have a good story, that also translates well to the Big Screen, which is what the last couple of Star Trek feature films SORELY LACKED.

To be honest, yeah. I was disappointed that we aren't getting a more faithful look at the the old girl. But I doubt it'll take away from my enjoyment of the film itself.

Then again, I haven't seen the whole ship yet...

Anyway, I can live with the new ship, from what I've seen. That's always been my position: I like the original the best (purist), however I don't feel obligated to hate the new ship, or rant every time I see it.

It has the TMP look to it. Except for the ugly TMP nacelles, thank goodness. So from that POV their doing it right. My inner fanboy is happy to see rotating nacelle caps.

Seeing how they're recasting the actors, revamping the look of the ship isn't too much of a surprise. I have my preferances: bright, colorful interiors, for example. But ranting isn't going to change things, so I'll just sit back and see what happens, and try not to have a heart attack before the movie arrives...

^ That is the other side of the coin, while it would be nice to know more, the verry nature of the Internet would spoil the film if too much info came out.

JJ seems to be playing it this way, just release enough info to get folks talking about it, and by gum, it's WORKING ! We are talking about it, looking at images going over every detail of what we have so far.

Nope, not disappointed one bit - liked what I've seen of the re-imagined TOS Enterprise so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Well, so far this is what has been leaked (visually):

-Kirk in red uniform
-Quinto w/ ears
-Orion woman (?)
-Grey Star Wars-esque uniform w/ hat and delta logo.
-Pieces of other uniforms: gold/blue/red/white/grey
-Pieces of the unfinished Enterprise saucer & nacelles
-An Ent hallway (or whatever)

That's all I can think of.

Aside from the uniform pics with the watermarks can any of the rest of that stuff be considered a "leak"?

And that corridor is almost certainly from the Enterprise... the context of how it is seen pretty much tells us that. Though I find it interesting the stretches people go through to wish it not so.
