Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks etc

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Well the last two items are what I'd call 'official leaks'.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I don't think you can call the photos of the ship "leaks", since they were presented to the world in a teaser trailer, which is freely available online from the official website.

The same could be said of the corridor. That image was freely and officially released.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

There's SO much we haven't seen, that I'm surprised anyone can be feeling too disappointed at this stage, unless you're one of the people who wanted an exact replica of the Enterprise used in the 1960s. I understand there are people would prefer that, but yes, it appears they're going to be out of luck. The whole "goth" look of the Enterprise is just because the trailer was filmed that way and was intended to take place at night. I don't see any reason to assume it's going to be this dark or "goth" when we actually see the Enterprise in action.

^
^^ what I find hard to believe is that it seems there are people who EXPECTED the Enterprise to look exactly like the 1960s design and seem genuinely shocked that it doesn't (not on this board, but I have seen this reaction on other boards), even months after the creative team confirmed that this will have a "different visual astheic".

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Nope. Super excited m'self. Sorry you don't feel the same.

Dead serious here......

I actually saw someone comment that if it the new film did not look EXACTLY like the 1960's version in every detail, costumes, lighting, sets and even ...get this

POORLY DONE MODELS HANGING FROM WIRES

I kid you not. Oh, and they needed to be filmed all grainy too.

Some people are just ridiculous in their over zealousness.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Nope, I get more excited about this film all the time.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Definitely feeling the excitement over a new Trek movie unlike I did for the last one. So far I feel much has been kept under lock and key. If you are feeling like too much is leaking out then don't click on threads that discuss new leaks or info.

I try to avoid pre-release stuff, even going as far as turning the channel once the commercial hits tv. I don't want to see it because trailers give away too much. Hopefully JJ won't be doing that with this movie.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I am. After that encouraging news about Orci acknowledging Enteprise, I broke down and watched the trailer. There is no way that this movie is NOT a reboot. Nice try, Bob.

And that is bad, because...??

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I want something new, not something recycled or "rebooted".
Sequels or prequels don't me. "Reboots" do.
You don't plan to criticize me now for not falling in line and praising everything that Abrams does now do you?

Every things "recycled", not excluding every last story ever told on Trek as I think was brought up in another thread.

Originality is in execution not premise, but I can assure this production is going to set a high standard for any new Trek production to follow it and make its own positive mark on how Star Trek is defined.

Moving ahead in a timeline and simply sticking a random group on a ship isn't in and of itself creative.

I am not disappointed in the least. I am very much looking forward to this film. I am as giddy with anticpation as I ever was for a Star Trek film.

How could I... since we don't actually know what he is doing...

Yeah, someone using someone elses characters is soooooooooo creative. I could have done that myself, and I'm not even a professional.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

I enjoyed Cloverfield, and MI:3.. I like what these guys are saying about the new Trek film. I think it will be pretty good!!

I think it's pretty clear from the trailer what Abrams is intending to do.

The question of whether this is a reboot or a prequel depends on your point-of-view coming in:

If you think that the LOOK of Star Trek is set in stone and that the look is very important to the fabric of the show, then you will probably consider this a reboot.

However, if you think that the look isn't that important (as long as for instance the Enterprise is still basically recognizable), but the TONE, FEEL, characters traits and character relationships are what is important to Star Trek, then you can be a little encouraged by what the creative team has said so far -- and you would probably consider this (so far, at least) an in-universe prequel.

I usually don't nitpick minor visual discontinuities, like rank pips missing in one scene and being their in the next. The look of this new ship is a different matter altogether.
It's kind of hard to swallow that this is supposed to be the same Enterprise we saw in the 60's show. I don't see how this isn't a reboot.
