Anybody know what's going on with PSN?

Does anyone know if some "phat" PS3s are okay? Like since I had mine on about 12 hours ago several hours after the issue began, am I okay? Or should I just leave it off until the crisis is over?

What model do you have, there are reports from people with 40gig and 80gig models having no issues.

I have a European launch PS3, but i'm leaving it off for now...

Well at some stage even if it is affected you will have to switch it on to get the fix......:(

The official line from Sony is that the ONLY unaffected models are the PS3 Slims. If I had a phat I'd be inclined to leave it off until they say otherwise.

However, quite a few people on twitter are saying that their 80gb models are unaffected. I have no idea if only a specific revision shipped with that size of HDD, but there it is.

Shit sucks. I'm just glad my slim isn't bricked, got an Origami Killer to catch...

Dammit, Sony. When we said we wanted you to one-up Microsoft, this is not what we meant!! Leave it to Sony to effectively brick all the phat PS3s connected to the internet.

Suddenly I'm glad I didn't get around to watching a movie yesterday like I was planning to. PS3 will remain dormant for the time being. Hopefully they have a fix in place soon.

As a fellow podcaster said on twitter:

Haha xbox owners going mental about ps3's dying, one day out of five years vs the three xboxs that I had to send to germany due to rrod

Update just in ....Fix is on the way in the next 24 hours, anybody with a fat PS3 leave it off for that time....

Statement from Sony regarding 8001050F error. Bottom line, if you have a fat PS3, do not use it for 24 hours. The news came in Sony's first comprehensive statement about the error plaguing PS3s worldwide. Today's statement came from Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesman Patrick Seybold, who told Kotaku yesterday that Sony was on the case. The company's engineers in Japan and elsewhere are trying to resolve a problem that has left PS3s around the world in an unusable state. Original theories that this only affected online-connected consoles, has been disproven.

Update

"Don't use your PS3 for 24 hours." Pretty good advice there Sony seeing how I can't use it anway.

EDIT TO ADD: Well for now I'm sure glad I switched from the PS3 to the XBOX 360 version of MW2.

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:

  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

OMG!!! THERE IS PANIC IN THE STREETS!!!!

Gosh guys it's only been a bit of time, give them a chance to fix it.

http://www.thegamingvault.com/2010/03/game-retailers-refusing-to-trade-in-affected-ps3s/

"News is currently circulating that European game retailer GAME is already refusing to trade in recently affected PS3 which were affected by the PSN / PS3 hardware failures which occurred earlier today.
Owners who have been attempting to trade in their “fat” PS3s for the currently-unaffected slim models are apparently being refused, reliable reports have indicated to us. GAME is refusing trade for those consoles at this time.
We have received word directly from consumers regarding this as well.
We’ll keep you informed on any more updates regarding the PS3’s recent problems as we get them."

Yeah some people are really going mental over it. Sure, it's unfortunate, but it's a complicated piece of mass produced hardware and sometimes shit like this is going to happen.

Seriously if you can't go a day without MW2 or whatever without having a fucking nervous breakdown then a bricked PS3 is the least of your problems.

I have an 80gb that I bought in August 2009 the day the price drop went through so that must be why I've dodged this bullet.

4 years without a glitch on my Xbox 360, incorruptible PS3...The gaming gods love me.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can go a day without using my PS3.

I agree. But I understand a certain level of frustation. Lately I've had more time for gaming, so it's not been an issue for me recently, but I have to admit it's pretty annoying when you have limited time to game and you finally set aside some time for some serious button mashing and something like this happens.

But yeah, some of the rants I've seen online border on insanity.

While I couldn't care less about not being able to use my game console for a day or two, I would be seriously pissed if I lost game saves that I had put dozens or hundreds of hours into because Sony's engineers didn't know what a leap year was.

^^^You do realise you just jinxed yourself....

I was thinking the same thing. Because just a couple of weeks ago, me and friend were talking about my PS3 and how it didn't even really get warm during a 6 hour marathon session of MW2. He described it as being "built like a tank."

I'm thinking my tank just got a Hellfire missle up it's arse.

Thing about gamesaves being corrupt, it might be that because gamesaves are timestamped they are not actually corrupt but are are not boing seen by the PS3 because the internal clock is buggered,...I have been seeing report from people who have dissembled their PS3, removed the internal battery, reset the clock and everything works again fine including gamesave.

Fingers crossed that's its true though.

Certainly the god of claymore camping on MW2 could be exacting revenge on some.

And if so and it starts to affect the slim I'm noob tubed big time.:eek:

My co-workers were saying the same thing.

I should sacrifice a virgin on my way home or something just to make sure the Gaming Gods are appeased.

^^^I assume your not going to switch your PS3 on when you get home, i would take Sony's official advice and leave it off till the fix appears, no point in taking chances i think at this stage.
