Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

We may have dodged a bullet there. The whole thing sounds pretty bad.

.....

And here comes my biggest complaint about this reboot. Javier Grillo-Marxuach is a shipper. I have no problem with fans shipping characters, but if you give them the helm they're going to head full speed into the nearest rocks. Javeir's main ambition for this show was to tell a love story and cater to the hardcore fans who obsessed over Xena and Gabrielle rather than the mainstream audience. If he can't think of a single reason to bring the show back rather than to tell a love story then he clearly has no idea what made Xena such a good show.

I agree, this sounds bad.

Instead of a naïve farm girl, Gabrielle would begin the series as part of the nomadic Scythian tribe. By contrast, Xena would begin the pilot working alongside the villainous Hercules to complete his mythical twelve labors, the joke being that she was responsible for most of them and he was taking the credit. But after Hercules betrays her and leaves her for dead, Gabrielle nurses Xena back to health...

This doesn't sound like an evil warlord who has to spend the next 6 seasons atoning for her life. If anything it sounds like she's already trying to atone by helping "evil" Hercules out. And having Xena get "nursed back to health" by Gabrielle sounds too much like a romance novel.

I don't mind shipping, but as strange as it sounds, the Xena / Gabrielle "ship" lasted as long as it did because the romance wasn't the focus of every ep. I use this logic discussing star trek romances. As soon as Picard marries Crusher, the relationship is doomed (divorced in the same ep). As soon as Worf kisses Troi, the relationship is doomed (Troi dies in that ep). It takes a few seasons in DS9, but just look what happens to Worf and Jadzia. :klingon: For the oldsters on the board, a nontrek reference would be Rhoda. Once she and Joe got married, the show went downhill.

Watching X&G's relationship unfold over the years was so affecting because they focused on the feeling behind the relationship more than the hormones. Xena wasn't horribly jealous every time someone sniffed around Gabrielle, so when she WAS jealous it was a sight to see.

I still think TPTB should just show us X&G at another intersection of their karmic cycles in another ancient time period.

Or a less ancient one. :bolian:

Or 19th century one.

I'm not that picky.

Because I refuse to believe Elaine much less Raven or Topanga would outrank Xena ! :brickwall:

This has been posted elsewhere, but I thought I should include it in this thread too... and no, I havent been brave enough to read it yet. :sigh:

That list is SO wrong. Xena should be #1 and Buffy #2!

@JanewayRulz!, I’ve been meaning to do this for the last two years. Laziness stopped me. But I feel like you will appreciate this.

My Xena blanket.

I also have a poster of Xena and Gabby from the last calendar that says 20th Anniversary.

Excellent JG! :bolian:

My only Xena related collectible is a photo with her aiming a crossbow (at Ares but you can't really see him). :klingon:

I had to move her on my autograph wall because it looked like she was shooting Capt Janeway.

That sounds so funny!

I had really wanted a chakram replica and I found a website where they were selling them. $225-250 depending on which one (dark or yin and yang) you wanted plus $30 shipping. I thought about it for a year but couldn’t justify the price. Then I found the blanket and it was way more affordable.

The sad thing is that even a foam replica is 80 dollars.

I got to admit, I like the chakram necklaces I found on ebay and the T shirt that proclaimed "I am a lunatic with lethal combat skills":guffaw:

I used to watch Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and became a long time Xenite through it. (I think 'Dreamworker' was the first XWP episode that I saw.)

Gabrielle was/is my favourite character. I liked Joxer and Ares (rest in peace Kevin Smith) too.

Gabrielle is a great character. Watching her journey from peasant girl to warrior was one of the most interesting things from the show.

A Valentine for Xena. :luvlove:

I’m glad they are doing something for the 25th anniversary because I was sad there was no celebration of the 20th.

Its nice to see the cons are back again, just wish they were on the east coast once in a while.

IIRC, there was a big hullabaloo back in 2015 over the Xena conventions coming to an end. :censored:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/maceyjforonda/25-kick-ass-costumes-from-the-last-ever-xena-convention (The male Gabrielle and female Joxer are my fav duo. :bolian: )

This next article explains "why" they were ending, given the attendance estimates. (Probably another reason why they don't do an east coast convention, too costly to ship everyone there.)

Fugate wrote another skit for that last 2015 con (at the 2012 con she had Gabrielle propose to Xena), here's the end of the 2015 skit

Here's the aforementioned 2012 skit... loved the fact Lucy had to read the script to find out Xena's response.

Maybe the con will jump start the reboot movement. :vulcan:

I gave some serious thought into attending the 2012 convention but it (financially) wasn’t going to work out. I remember seeing the proposal clip and thinking “It’s canon! Take that people who say it isn’t!”
