Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

They finally added Heroes & Icons, which shows X:WP, and H:TLJ to my cable line up, but they are on late night after I go to sleep on weekdays and late afternoon and early evenings, when I work a lot, on weekends.
How hard would it be to just kind of jump in and out on them on the days I'm not working while they're one?

Hercules or Xena?

If you have time at 2pm today, my fav show is playing on XWP... "The Idea Of March"

I don't know how disconnected you would feel at hit or miss watching of HtLJ. As much as I love most individual Xena eps, it is the progression over the seasons (primarily marked by the growth in Gabrielle and Joxer) that really shines for me.

I realized I forgot to come back here, but I did end up watching most of the first half of The Ides of March during my lunch, and I did like it. Obviously there was some stuff I wasn't able to follow jumping in so late into the series, but what I could follow I liked a lot.
I'm a huge Pysch, Galavant, Kelvinverse Trek, and LOTR fan, so I got a huge kick out of seeing young Timothy Omundson, and Karl Urban.

I was looking around on Google Play earlier today, and I found e-books of a bunch of H:TLJ, and X: WP novels written back when the shows were on the air, or possibly shortly after they ended. Anyone know if they are any good?

I forgot to post earlier that I was able to watch X:WP and H:TLJ this weekend, and I really enjoyed both. The Xena episodes were the ones with the demons and angels after Xena and Gabrielle die, and the next one where they come back and Xena doesn't remember any of the violent things she did. The Hercules episodes were the ones with Gina Torres where Iolaus dies and Herc goes to rescue him.
So you guys mentioned that the Dahak stuff tied back into Xena, how so? The episode didn't mention Xena at all that I noticed.

I'm sticking with it from here at least until I miss some from work.
Watched Xena: Succession and Animal Attraction on H&I yesterday. Succession was pretty good, it was a nice character focused story for Xena and Gabrielle, and Mavican was a pretty good villian.
Animal Attraction was my favorite of the two. The stuff with Amarice and Arman was fun, and as an animal person I liked the stuff with Gabrielle and her horse a lot too. Xena being pregnant was an interesting twist. Was Lucy Lawless really pregnant? I already started to wonder during Succession when I noticed they suddenly added strips over her stomach, and there were a couple scenes where I swore she looked pregnant.
So does Gabrielle's horse actually stick around? It seems like a lot a lot of the time shows will do an episode like this where they make a big deal out of someone getting something, like Gabrielle's horse, but then by the next episode it's vanished, never to be mentioned again.
Did they film the episodes out of order or something? It just seemed weird how in Succession it was just Xena and Gabrielle, with no mention of Amarice or Joxer and nothing about the stuff that had been going on, and then in Animal Attraction Amarice, Joxer and Argo were there and they were making a whole bunch of references to all of the stuff that had been going on.

Fantastic interview!

Fav line:

Would it be fair to say that the world still needs Xena today?

Lawless: God, yes … I think there should be a Xena movie. The need for Xena and Gabrielle to be out there in the #MeToo generation is huge. It’s the most perfect, iconic relationship to have out there … The fact that we’re still recognized and wanted in places around the world shows there’s definitely a market for it.

I was at that convention and got my sister (a huge Xena fan) an autograph for her collection. I'm in no way bragging since I never really watched the show (I'd catch it here and there, I know I watched Hercules more when it originally aired), but just wanted to make sure to say how insanely nice she was to everybody, making sure to shake hands and, even with such a long lineup for her, give everybody that moment and memory. Such a class act, the success of Xena is well deserved with her.

Damn again, H&I has changed their schedule and they are no longer showing the Saturday evenig episodes, so now it's just on very early weekday morning.

I share your frustration. Its especially hard to hook newbies if they can't reliably find it on their channels.

Glad to hear she's the same in person as she seems on the stage. :bolian:

She's one star that I'd love to see at a convention. Alas I haven't seen a con close enough that I could attend.

I was lucky enough to see Karl Urban this year. Woo Hoo!

JD, whenever you are able to watch the series completely, DO NOT watch the two-part series finale. It is awful, horrible, and deviates from the entire show.

I have a contrary opinion.

WATCH the 2 part finale, but make sure its the "director's cut" which adds an important exposition scene cut for broadcast and changes the 2nd to the final shot of the finale.

Speaking of the above/previous FanX con video... the youtuber posted multiple full panel videos last week and the view count for LL&RC was #1, beating #2 (Legends of Tomorrow) by 2700 views, David Tennant by over 6000 and Jennifer Morrison by nearly 10,000.

Looks like we aren't the only ones starved for XWP news. :bolian:

Alas, I suspect TPTB won't notice until its 20 million.

Tor.com has an article about a recent appearance Javier Grillo-Maxauch made on a Xena podcast where he laid out his plan for the first season of his reboot, and it sounds like it would have been awesome. Although I have a feeling Hercules: The Legendary Journeys fans' heads would have probably exploded.
Interesting bits:
JG-M described it as "what happens when you team up one of the Gilmore Girls with a Klingon".
Hercules was going to be the big bad.
Gabrielle was going to be a nomadic Scythian rather than a farm girl.
A big part of the arc was going to focus on Gabrielle entering into a political marriage with the leader of a rival tribe in order to build an alliance to fight off evil Hercules's army.
We would have gotten new versions of Joxer, Callisto, and Autolycus.
It would have been more grounded and less campy than the original.
It definitely sounds like it was going to be a much more overt love story about Xena and Gabrielle. They were even going to kiss at the end of the pilot at one point
There is a lot more detailed info in the article, so if you are at all interested in what JG-M's version of the show would have been like you definitely need to check it out.

We may have dodged a bullet there. The whole thing sounds pretty bad.

That was a kind of camp that played well because the show was a first-run syndicated show, because obviously their budgets weren’t gonna allow them to recreate ancient Greece with any kind of fidelity, and I think that they embraced the camp because of a lot of necessities.

The show wasn't campy because of necessity. It was campy because camp is awesome. Xena and Hercules were perfectly capable of being dramatic when they wanted to. Xena really needs to contrast its darker aspects by letting loose and being silly at times. Married with Fishsticks might have been a terrible episode, but I'm glad the show was flexible enough to allow for experimental episodes like that.

By contrast, Xena would begin the pilot working alongside the villainous Hercules to complete his mythical twelve labors, the joke being that she was responsible for most of them and he was taking the credit. But after Hercules betrays her and leaves her for dead

Ugh, I don't like this. It reminds me of when Zack Snyder killed Jimmy Olsen in Batman v Superman as a joke because he disliked the character. I'm fine with a darker Hercules or even turning him into the villain, but by saying that Hercules cheated on his trials and Xena was actually the one to complete them it feels like he's just shitting on the character for the sake of it. Hercules should at the very least be skilled.

There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s.

And here comes my biggest complaint about this reboot. Javier Grillo-Marxuach is a shipper. I have no problem with fans shipping characters, but if you give them the helm they're going to head full speed into the nearest rocks. Javeir's main ambition for this show was to tell a love story and cater to the hardcore fans who obsessed over Xena and Gabrielle rather than the mainstream audience. If he can't think of a single reason to bring the show back rather than to tell a love story then he clearly has no idea what made Xena such a good show.
