Any word yet about TOS Remastered on Blu-Ray?

With the format essentially over, has there been any word (official or even rumor) about if/when we can expect to see TOS Remastered on Blu-Ray. I know that Paramount had an escape clause in their contract with the HD-DVD people that if Warner jumped ship, so could Paramount.

And if there's nothing about Blu-Ray, is there any release info for season 2 and 3 on HD-DVD?

Paramount hasn't made any announcements regarding BluRay.

As for TOS-R Season 2 on HD-DVD: Sometime this summer, I think.

In fact, if anything, Universal has reiterated their support for HD DVD. In a recent interview with BetaNews, Universal president Ken Graffeo said they continue to support HD DVD.

First of all, I want to say that none of those rumors were substantiated. Nobody ever talked to us. I know nobody talked to Paramount because Brenda, their PR person, sent out a statement immediately. This is business as usual for us and there are no plans to make any changes. We just made an announcement of our new HD DVD titles yesterday, with American Gangster. We also have a lot of other things planned. It's business as usual.
Can I make a request here? There are many places over the web where HD DVD vs. Blu-ray is being debated hot and heavily. Can we not make this place one, too? Can we just leave it that for now, Star Trek Remastered will only be available in HD DVD, please?

Babaganoosh is correct. While there is no official release date set for the second season, it is expected to be sometime this summer.

I would expect a statement about dual format release soon, unless they will announce after a certain date, all releases will be in Blu-Ray format.

The Format War ? Over ? I wish it was.

Three things need to happen before the format war ends.

1. Pigs flying.
2. Hell freezeing over.
3. Bill Gates is made king of the world.

Seeing as only #3 has happened the format war continues.

Ah, but 'support' does not equal esclusivity. Right now both Universal and Paramount do have contracts to ONLY release titles in HD DVD format; but once that contract term ends, 'support' could mean that they will ALSO release titles in Blu-Ray format in addition to continuing to release HD DVD titles; but time will tell.

Still I would not expect ANY announcements about Blu-Ray titles from either Paramount or Universal until the exclusive HD DVD contract term ends in mid-2008.

Also, baring a change of heart from Warner Bros.; the Blu-Ray HD DVD format war is over, as only Universal and Paramount are producing HD DVD titles. Warner, Disney, Fox, MGM/UA and the rest are Blu-Ray; and Warner's decision was the final nail in the HD DVD coffin.

This request certainly has my enthusiastic support.

If and when Paramount starts releasing Blu-Ray titles, I'm sure TOS will be high on their priority list.

I own an A1 and bought HD-DVD only because I checked a list of both formats movies available as of july and Almost all of them were exclusives.

It's interesting to note that Universal's contract to HD-DVD exclusivity HAS expired (as of a week or so ago) and they have not yet renewed it.

Another question might be: Will the third season even be released on HD-DVD? Will it be released only on Blu-Ray?

Now that's a really good question. At the price they're charging, you'd think so. They can certainly make money even with a small pressing run.

Another question is how many Trekkies would skip buying the third season at these high prices? For at the most half a dozen good episodes, and really only three in my book, am I willing to shell out $130 for the high def version of season 3, whether it be on HD DVD or Blu-ray? That's a question I haven't answered for myself yet.

I doubt it.

Paramount will probably still release seasons 2 and 3 on HD-DVD (as well as BluRay), but I think they'll only do that because they already released season 1 in that format.

It would be acceptable to have all three seasons in both formats.
Precisely. I don't care if they release them all in HD-DVD too, it's just that I'm going Blu-Ray so I hope they'll release the seasons in both formats.

Haven't both Paramount and Universal's exclusivity contracts already run out?

I'm not sure about Universal; but I believe Paramount's lasts through May, 2008.

Paramount's contracts last through summer, I believe. They haven't made a formal announcement about releasing ANYTHING after that time yet.

It's expected that they'll finish the year as HD-DVD backers, but will likely be forced to accept BluRay in 2009. I wouldn't expect any BluRay version of TOS-R until that time.
