Any Way to Get A Copy of Jerome Bixby's ST:TNG "Mirror, Mirror" Sequel

Never heard of this before. It could've been a lot of fun if they had gotten it made. That being said, I can see how hard it would've been to make happen.

As much as it pains me, I don't think the story needed the Original Series characters to work. It sounds like they are taking over the episode as it's been described.
yeah, as described it sounds more like an original cast episode, perhaps originally intended for Phase II -- it would have been rewritten to have the TNG characters drive the plot and be the stars of the episode.

I don't remember whether we heard about the proposed TNG episode first (in "Starlog"), or Diane Duane's "Dark Mirror" novel came out first, but the novel was pretty spectacular, plus there was the early mention of Cetacean Ops.

It was funny that I knew a rather feisty cosplayer who did a very good Deanna Troi a few times at conventions and I would picture her as Mirror Troi.

Certainly sour grapes.

I recall resentment from several directions that Shatner was directing that movie and had supplied part of the story. Shatner had been able to call upon the "favoured nations" clause that was originally added to Shatner's and Nimoy's contracts that was meant to entice Nimoy to do TMP.
I've read that Nimoy even suggested to Shatner that he could direct his own now.

It was bound to happen. They wanted these guys back, so they gave in to the demands. Patrick Stewart started getting producer credit and story approval. They made him an action heron, which in turn makes Riker redundant.

Because Nimoy had directed two movies, Shatner wanted to do the next two. He didn't end up insisting upon doing ST VI.
I had no issue with Shatner directing, I just wish they stopped short at allowing him to supply the story.

But, to quote Ralph Winter, they were "smoking their own press releases" at the time. They felt they could do no wrong.

The studio was not obligated to approve Shatner's story ideas. No so-called "favored nations" contract would include something that binding on the studio.
