That's fair and I would totally respect that. If nothing but TOS was your cup of tea that's fine. This thread implies that said people hadn't given up until they saw the Abrams' film. My curiosity is whether or not, in that case, Nemesis and Enterprise were acceptable directions for Trek to head in (i.e. not enough to make someone give up on it.)

Disclaimer: Of course I don't really believe that people who liked Abrams films all have double-digit IQs. This was just a swipe I couldn't resist taking because it was set up so neatly.

Which is a good point - several of the thread participants have long rejected anything that followed ST:TMP and certainly had no use for TNG-era Trek. So even the participation here is somewhat overstated.

In spite of lauding the stories, praising the cast, and declaring nothing but love for the movies the idea that I couldn't appreciate the visual aspect of TOS was enough to get me nailed to the cross as everything from a snob to an ineffectual moron, drooling into a bucket.

Sense when did a varying degree of ability to suspend disbelief at all equate to a persons intelligence anyway?

Definitely things in this film that don't work for me, watched it today while I was home sick. But when I watch the special features I don't think these people went out of the way to piss of die-hards like me. They love making movies and I think they loved interpreting Star Trek for todays audiences.

This is a fair point. I watched the special feature documentary as well. I agree they chose their own interpretation and incorporating elements from elsewhere.

Legitimate question? Yes. However, what is the motivation for someone to answer when they're automatically assumed to be drooling morons? ToddPence may have a legitimate question, but why should I consider his questions if he'll just assume anything any one of us says is wrong anyway?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Warped9 doesn't think there's anything wrong with ToddPence and friends belittling everyone who doesn't share their exact same opinions on the movie when you come from the school of thought that bad = fact and good = opinion. That is the high road, after all.

It's always been that way, here. In the larger scheme of things, it means nothing. What Abrams has done is a success because so many Trek fans and so many other people like it. It's purest, self-indulgent fantasy for the relatively few folks who truly hate this movie to imagine that they're speaking for a significant percentage of the audience.

I know a guy who's written a really stupid negative review of the flick and who searches out every place that the DVD is for sale to post the same drivel word-for-word. Guess he's saving the world for TOS.
