Another Voyager 1st-time watch thread

I thought that scene would go down well with the folks on here.

Oh, did you? :guffaw:

This is a really fun episode. Fake Tuvok was my fave. He was so earnest in his immersion in his character. I loved when he talked to Fake Janeway the way he thought Tuvok really would; he never broke character and it was actually adorable. I kinda wanted him to stay.

Amen on the Tuvok "fanboy" moment near the end! I absolutely lose it every time.

"Misfit" Voyager would have been awesome, and not just because I wish Kashyk had come along. :D Clearly TPTB wanted us to think of them as misfits from the outset, but a few more quirky DQ personalities wouldn't have been amiss.

Oh, and Janeway and Tuvok's "interrogation" scene. "Several incurable forms of...psoriasis."

I really can't think of anything that I dislike about this episode.

At this stage in Trek, I like these shows where they aren't taking the show quite as seriously, and are often providing a commentary on the show itself, better than a lot of the "regular" episodes.
Exactly.;)
I'm glad you see the metaphor.

If you enjoy the commentary, wait 'till you get to "Muse".;)

OK, I'm stealing a few minutes from working on my lecture (while waiting for inspiration to visit) to talk about...

"Muse"

This was a phenomenal episode, and probably one on my Trek shortlist of greats. There's a lot to like.

First, it's a neat historical mash-up: ancient Greece meets renaissance Italy meets Shakespeare in Love. Lots of good little touches in there, and incredibly we get a well-realized culture with 2 sets and a dozen people, if that. Reminiscent of Bob Holmes' work on Doctor Who.

Then, you've got the whole meta-commentary on the need for violence and sex on TV, which was pretty artfully done. Compare this to Trial of a Timelord, which degenerates into Doctor Who sitting in a court watching Doctor Who and complaining about how boring, violent, and crappy it is. (For some reason I'm thinking about Doctor Who today).

I really, really liked how the episode is structured. For example, after Kelis tries to explain Vulcans to the actor playing Tuvok, we get a Tuvok scene. Then, after the Chakotay/Janeway kiss (who knew Kelis was a J/Cer?), we get a Janeway/Chakotay scene.

Tom did seem a little chipper for someone who might have lost both his girlfriend and best friend, but that's a minor point.

And I loved Tuvok working without sleep; reminiscent of "The Paradise Syndrome," and shows his dedication and feeling. Plus the scene with him falling asleep on the bridge, being caught, and blurting out, "As you were!" is priceless.

Also great: how Torres got caught up in the drama of the play, and insisted on going back so she could end it right. She's great in the whole episode but that last scene was outstanding.

And as a bonus, we get a small but great part for Kellie Waymire as Lanya, Kelis's possessive girlfriend. I thought she was great as Crewman Cutler on ENT.

So, yes, I really liked this episode.

I really enjoy this one as well. It's not one that gets talked about very often, but definitely one of my favorites.

Wow. Why?

I thought it was boring. I was about to turn 15 and it just didn't hold my attention. It didn't hold my attention a few months ago when I did nothing but re-watch Voyager for weeks while on bed rest.

And it felt like the writer's were mocking fanfiction a bit. Just a tiny bit.

Plus I had a $300 bet with my mom back in the day(I still owe her about $150) over whether or not Janeway and Chakotay would get together. That scene just twisted the knife in.

No,It has nothing to do with fanfiction. They made a parodyof the industry but at the same time being complementary toward it too. The whole ep. is a metaphor of what happens behind the scenes with writers/actors and how what they do is done with the hopes of educating & influecing the audience. It's very cleverly done.

Haters be hatin'.

Say word!!

I can kind of understand where those who don't like the episode are coming from. It's nice that we all have different tastes.

My ideal episode would have:

1. The Doctor singing
2. Seven signing with him
3. Archer mysteriously making an appearance via some sort of time vortex and singing as well, so Scott Bakula can finally say that he got to sing on Star Trek
4. Tuvok taking the piss out of everyone with a few choice words and raised eyebrows
5. Janeway laughing flirtatiously
6. The guy who she called a "very photogenic fellow" showing up and saying hi
7. Shran showing up through Archer's time vortex and shouting at everyone
8. A bunch of Hirogen, led by Tony Todd
9. A well-realized alien culture that makes sense on its own and within the context of the story
10. Torres telling people off

And there's probably a few things I missed, but that's about it. The funny thing is I don't really like musicals at all, but I love it when they sing on Voyager.

I kinda love this episode idea. Let's do it!
