Andy murray not talking to the BBC?

I think you are blinkered by your Englishness Hermiod. If you think the English aren't every bit as asininely chauvinistic as the Celtic nations you are not looking with objective eyes.

Our rivalries, as I said, are with nations other than the Celtic ones. Tell me what is wrong with that statement ?

If you can't see how much of a hypocrite that comment makes you, then I'm done with this retarded conversation.

Again, we have rivalries with our actual rivals and not just who we happen to be next door to.

Sorry, but it looks to me like you two are blinkered by your Scottishness more than anything else.

How can you possibly say that when neither of us have actually denied or defended the idiocy of the Scottish sport fans in question?

Because all you have done is attack and attack and attack English fans without cause - especially Deckerd's comment about the World Cup win.

England fans are not going to stop being proud of winning the World Cup no matter how long ago it was just to spare the feelings of any Scottish fans that might be listening.

A quick glance through the thread reveals that the above is simply untrue.

To clarify my earlier gripe about the chanting, I get fucked off with chants of "scotland the brave" (etc) to the exact same degree for the exact same reasons. My grievances with sport rivalries are not with a particulat nation's fans, but purely with the concept itself.

If you want to interpret that as "Scottish blinkerdness" (I'm welsh with english grandparents, as it happens) then that's fine by me, but it says alot more about you than it does me.

^Well if that wasn't your intention then I apologise but my point about Scottish supporters in general stands. They do use England as a yardstick when they should look at the FIFA rankings and be more realistic.

If England use their World Cup success to wind up Scottish fans on the now rare occasions when we actually play each other, can you blame them ?

So you admit it then. What's sauce for the goose, etc. If the English are deliberately winding everyone else up, why do they whine when the elastic snaps back?

I have never said anything other than a) all Britons are equally to blame in the chauvinism stakes and b) banging on about a win which happened before most of the people watching sport were born gets just a teensy bit wearing after the 5,000th mention.

They think it's all over, they are right.

It's time to look forward to our next victory, in 2066!

Going right back to the beginning, this isn't about "whining". This is about choosing whether to support Andy Murray or not. He made a choice to be Scottish and not British.

The only answer to that is to win it yourselves.

"I am not anti-English and I never was," the 21-year-old insisted. "I am Scottish. I am also British. I am patriotic and proud to be Scottish, but my girlfriend (Kim) is English, my gran Shirley - who I love to bits - is English and half her family are English. They are from Newcastle. My fitness trainer's English, my physio's English, some of my friends are English. I don't have a problem with English people at all. I have a flat in London, I supported Tim Henman all through his career, I love watching Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan, two English boxers, I practise in England with English players. I could have played football for England (through his gran) though I probably wouldn't have got in the team! There is nothing wrong with English people at all and everyone who knows me knows how close I am to my gran on my mum's side".

- Andy Murray, The Daily Mirror, June 23rd 2008

Doesn't seem to be a problem. He's Scottish AND British.

Fair enough.

God, it's good to see the Scots and the English going at it again, just as God intended. This whole "United Kingdom" bollocks is unnatural. :p

Yeah and that Welsh sounds like a particularly productive throat-clearing exercise too.
