Andromeda: Worth watching?

Hopefully I'm not out of line bumping such an old thread - but with the complete lack of SciFi on television, I have decided to give this series a chance. Having completed the first 7 episodes of season 1, I must say that its been an enjoyable ride so far. I did like one posters description that the show can be a bit like knight rider or the a team in that you know what you are going to get so you just turn your brain off and enjoy 40 minutes of escapism - after all, isnt that what its about in the first place?
Really? There's quite a few sci-fi shows on right now.
Just of the top of my head there's:
Defiance
Kill Joys
Dark Matter
The 100
The Flash (technically superhero, but also a lot of sci-fi elements)
Person of Interset
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (like is The Flash, it's a comic book show with a lot of sci-fi elements)
Minority Report (this has only had one episode, so you don't need to worry about catching up)
Heroes Reborn (this is a reboot of the old show Heroes, but it also just started to it should be no problem jumping on board)
The Player (not blatantly sci-fi, but we do see some sci-fi-ish technology)
These are the ones I thought of off the top of my head, and with just a few minutes of checking TV Network's websites. I'm pretty sure there are probably others I'm not thinking of. These are also just shows from the US, there are also shows from other countries that are imported to the US, like Doctor Who, and Continuum. There have got to be tons of other foreign sci-fi shows I'm not aware of.
There are also several sci-fi shows that haven't premiered yet:
The Expanse (based on the bestselling book series)
Lookinglass
The X-Files return
Colony.

man, you guys weren't kidding. i watched the first two seasons over the summer. it was enjoyable. not the best, not the worst. but i've really struggled with the third season. i've only watched the first six or seven episodes...its bad.

I bailed on the show around the Thrid season, sure I've seen the odd episode of the later seasons but just like E:FC before it I think it suffered from too much interferrence from outside.

I always heard it came from the star.

Ravenxau, do yourself a favor.. watch the first seasons of "Lost in Space" and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"..do NOT watch any of the other seasons..

Andromeda is like that to me... Watch the first 2 seasons..then no more.. your mind will thank you for it..

I think S3 and 4 were not as good as 1 and 2, but better than most give them credit for being. Season 5 was a nightmare, with maybe the exception of the finale.

One thing I have to take issue with is the idea that RHW would have "saved" the show if he'd been kept. I've read the treatment for how he wanted the show to end, and it wasn't any better than S5. In some ways it was worse.

As for the high points of the show, I liked the cat-and-mouse game between Tyr and Dylan. I also liked Rev Bem.

And, damnit, the Kirk Speech Dylan gives at the end of the 2nd ep to the Maru crew makes me weep every time...

Thinking back the only season I remember having a problem with was 5. I did kind of have trouble keeping track of it after a while though, so there might have been a fair amount of stuff that I missed.
I think there were some interesting ideas in Season 5, but the execution was just a mess.

Blame Tribune. Because everyone else certainly did.

Also read the Coda that RHW wrote.

I would suggest trying the first season of Andromeda. After that I began to lost interest, and have seen only a handful episodes from the later seasons.

The first season is pretty strong IMO, despite the low production values. An interesting, expansive world, and half-decent story ideas even if the storyTELLING left things to be desired. All that went out the window by season three, which is when I fell off. The Fourth season had some good episodes that I watched after the show had ended based on fan recommendations. The fifth season happened.

I missed the episode with Chris Judge & Michael Shanks.heard they were good, but never saw it.

I recall the last 1/2 of season 4 as feeling like it returned to the Andromeda of season 1, and had eagerly anticipated season 5.

Season 5 was like a totally different show, with a seemingly super-slashed budget. You could pretty much skip it.
