Andorians -- four genders?

I can only imagine a species needing four people to create offspring would slowly dwindle in numbers and die. But Just because there are four genders, it doesn't mean all four are needed to create an offspring.
Maybe they're R-strategists rather than K-strategists like Humans are.

Maybe we have a different idea of what the word "misinterpretation" means.

It's very simple, really. There's a huge difference between making an interpretation of something based on the wording used, and outright taking something out of context by assuming something that wasn't there in the first place.

When you think about it, human marriages need 4 individuals as well.

male, female, priest and witness.

Except these days, marriages can be between two men, or two women, and can be officiated by a non-religiously aligned Justice of the Peace.

Yup, the point is, they don't all have to have sex with eachother to consumate the marriage.

Clearly the weddings you attend are a lot more fun than the ones I attend. Then again, what do I know? I haven't even been to a wedding in 16 years.
Well, they might be - the last wedding I attended was a Halloween themed wedding, 17 years ago this Halloween. In the interest of full disclosure, there was no sex, but I did get to wear my Monster Maroon admiral's uniform as Best Man, so that was about as good. :D

In the US, the office of Justice of the Peace has been going the way of the dodo in recent decades, as it is considered better to have people who have actual legal education (and are members of the bar) in judicial positions.

I like the idea of Andorians having four genders. It does seem quite unlikely that a species would evolve that way in the real world but by Trek standards it's quite believable.
