Spoilers Andor season one

Well, then you get into the whole territory of "new stuff sucks, only the old stuff is good." Now that the Prequels are twenty years old, they can be looked back upon fondly despite being bashed back when they were new. Star Trek follows a similar pattern with Voyager and Enterprise being hated by fans back when they were airing, but nowadays, they beloved classics. Doctor Who fandom actually incorporates this as part of the process, with it being stated when a new episode airs it will be judged to be crap. Then, five years later the episode is to be rewatched and reassessed as a misunderstood gem and much better than the crap which is currently airing.

I've always thought that the prequel reevaluation was almost as weird as people claiming that kids at the time loved them. I saw Episode 1 when it debuted in theaters, and I was 8 1/2 years old (in may 1999) and it certainly didn't become a childhood favorite, and has not grown on me since then (I was also never a fan of Jar Jar even as a kid, regardless of the weird propaganda Lucasfilm people still try to spread about the character being beloved by children). Episode II, which I also saw on release (when I was 11 1/2 years old), might be the first movie I saw in theaters and actively disliked even as a dumb kid, and I still think its bad. Episode III was also watched on release, and I hold the same opinion today as when I first saw it, that its just ok, but easily the best prequel.

Now, the Clone Wars cartoon did a lot to help the prequel era, I legitimately care about Anakin Skywalker solely based on that cartoon. But the Clone wars cartoon was (generally) so much better then the prequel movies that it doesn't really raise up my opinion on Episodes 1-3, it more just makes me like/tolerate the prequel era overall.

Also, Voyager and Enterprise are not beloved classics by basically anyone that I've ever seen talk about them, and I say that as someone who probably likes both shows more then most people (for example, I think that Enterprise Season 3 legitimately did the "Season long arc" thing better then Discovery or Picard, and I do think that Voyager had a few all time classic episodes, along with the Doctor being one of my favorite Trek characters). As for Doctor Who, I doubt crap like Kill the Moon or In the Forest of the Night are going to get "reevaluated", and thats just a small example.

I don't think reevaluation is as wide spread as people claim. A lot of stuff that was bad when it came out is still terrible, and probably even worse in hindsight. You might appreciate some elements more, but outside of small groups online a lot of stuff gets shit on for good reason, and stays in the metaphorical trash.

people claiming that kids at the time loved them.
I certianlly did, I was 8 when TMP came out, and I remember enjoying it immensely. I remember enjoying the other 2 too.
I don't like them now, they bore me, the first 2 sequels are better than any of those movies.

I tried to binge them during last year's Star Wars day, and I couldn't finish any of them and just skipped to the OT.

I liked AOTC more than TPM, though there was a lot of merchandising, role play and video games that made TPM an event to participate in. I did enjoy that part. ROTS remains firmly in second place, largely due my disinterest in Anakin. Recent productions, including Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi series, as well as the novel, keep it a little bit more interesting.

Andor's saving grace right now is that it takes place in an era I am most interested in.

We more or less see the event where Mon Mothma sends her final declaration in the Senate against the Emperor (via hologram of her speech) and the subsequent aftermath where she sent out the call for Rebellion in an episode of "Rebels".

As for the Emperor dissolving the Senate permanently. That happens after Rogue One, after Senator Leia Organa is captured by Darth Vader, but before they destroy Alderaan.

This show keeps hitting it out of the park. I just wish it wasn’t a weekly series, it feels like something tha should be binged.

Something Gilroy said in an interview makes me wonder if we’ll hear Mothma’s declaration of rebellion that we seen in Rebels again. He said there are important events in canon over these 5 years to be mindful of. That would have to be in Season 2 though I think.

The Book of Boba Fett started out a lot stronger than it ended.

The Book of Boba Fest started... okay, then it ended as a turd. Worst thing Disney have turned out regarding SW/MCU shows IMO.

And at one time Lucas himself was set on doing a decidedly less kid-friendly live-action Star Wars television series. It was going to be called Star Wars: Underworld. And it was going to be "darker and grittier." Who knows how much so, but production staff did make comparisons to Deadwood and The Godfather. Anybody else remember really, really looking forward to this? What a let-down that it never happened. Now, finally, years later we get something that leans a little more in that direction. It's about time!

Kor

Chris Chibnall of all people was on the preliminary writing staff for that show I think...

Mon Mothma has a husband?! I don't know why that shocked me a little, but I guess it's just something I never considered. She always seemed like a solitary figure in most stories, so I suppose I took it for granted. That said i don't expect him to make it out of this show alive . . .

Great episode so far. Well paced and did a solid job of establishing new characters and the trajectory for the next few episodes. I'm sure the heist will go sideways and all of them will die, but it should be entertaining at least!

So many fun references this time, but the award probably has to go to the fact that they actually went and built Starkiller's Sith Armour from 'The Force Unleased' DLC! The set of stone "hand" inscriptions like the ones from the Lothal temple are a close second! Also spotted a Mandalorian cuirass and what looked like a Wookie helm.

Did not expect to hear a reference to the Rakata, but here we are!

Did we just learn that Cassian and Han both served on Mimban around the same time?

I understand the sentiment, but I will never be mad about having new Star Wars to watch every week! ;)

They had Mon Mothma namedrop Ghorman, so it seems likely. Indeed, we may even see the very massacre on Ghorman that prompted her into open action (or quite possibly, get an entirely different perspective on the whole affair.)

I got the feeling the empire is setting their sights on Mothma.... She seems to be squeezed.

Not familiar with the story or characters, haven't seen "Andor character" film either.

the Series looks really good, like the varied vistas - whether "green nature planet" or the big sprawling concrete/glass city.

Plenty of potential interesting characters.
Awesome not having a light saber, force wielding thing or Skywalker-crutch in sight as far as I know.

I wish they'd release multiple episodes at once - kind of like mini arcs.
  • the introduction
  • the prep/heist and "escape/survival" of the heist
  • the whatever story arcs follow afterwards

I also predict that Meero will switch sides down the road, maybe in season two if it gets one, like that guy from Rebels (name escapes me at the moment). He was brutal until he switched.

I'm more curious about what Meero's background is. Partagaz seemed to imply there was a reason why she has an uphill struggle.
She's human so it's not the species prejudice that's prevalent in the military. I really doubt it's because she's a woman (the Disney era thankfully seems to have ditched that prejudice for the Empire.) That just leaves family and up-bringing. Could be it's a socio-economic/class thing and she's from the Outer Rim or Wild Space, or a deep level like 1313? A former Separatist world perhaps? Maybe she has/had a Jedi in the family?

They're probably watching any and all senators not strictly towing the official Imperial line.
If they truly suspected her of sedition (nevermind funding rebel cells!) she'd have already been disappeared.
