Spoilers Andor season one

5 BBY is still... *counts it out* ... five years before the Senate gets dissolved.
Yeah, and the Andor series will take us right up to that.

We more or less see the event where Mon Mothma sends her final declaration in the Senate against the Emperor (via hologram of her speech) and the subsequent aftermath where she sent out the call for Rebellion in an episode of "Rebels".

As for the Emperor dissolving the Senate permanently. That happens after Rogue One, after Senator Leia Organa is captured by Darth Vader, but before they destroy Alderaan.
I was wondering if it takes time for news to spread in the Star Wars Universe. Maybe when Tarkin was told about it the news was already a day or two old.

I mean, maybe. But, even early on in the same film Vader orders one of Imperial officers to fake a distress call and then inform the Senate that all aboard were killed. So, it feels likes the Senate being dissolved was something contained within ANH.

There’s a suit of armour in the antique shop, which I’m pretty sure the helmet is based off Starkiller’s helmet in the dark side alt-history DLC for the Force Unleashed.

Also when his assistant is showing the driver around, there’s Mortis tablets on display. I think I also spotted sith and Jedi holocrons in the workshop

Is it weird that I was a little excited to finally see the Corellian starliners up close for the first time? They only appeared in the distance in 'Solo', and I appreciated how the design echoed the original version of the Falcon.

I know most people tend to get excited about fighters and warships, but for me it's the utilitarian stuff that makes the galaxy feel more alive.

Tarkin is a Grand Moff and as close to Palpatine's inner circle as one can get. He doesn't strike me as the sort to be even a few hours behind the times when it comes to even small matters, let alone titanic shifts in the order of the Empire.
Plus as has been pointed out, the Vader's officer was concerned about the Senate in ANH, which is after Rogue One . . . by mere hours perhaps, but still.

I guess it's possible that the show may give us a little epilogue with Mon Mothma that takes us at least partly though the events of ANH? That would be interesting in and of itself.

Yeah, I mentioned it a page back. ;)

Also spotted a Kel Dor mask. That it's in an antiquities boutique next to 14,000 year old coins, Jedi/Mortis temple pieces and what looks like a pure beskar cuirass probably mean's it's not just any old Kel Dor mask. It's either very old, or belonged to someone very important.
I doubt it's Plo's given that 1) his probably wouldn't have survived that crash intact, and 2) openly displaying Jedi artefacts seems like a dumb thing to do for an establishment trying very hard to appear harmless to the ISB.

I think there was a Gungan energy shield shoved in the back there somewhere too.

What also jumped out at me was that some of the the items in the back were frozen in small blocks of carbonite; Can't really make out what they are; one looks like a coil of something or a necklace, though if they're frozen like that, one assumes that they're very VERY delicate and valuable.

I got the feeling the empire is setting their sights on Mothma.... She seems to be squeezed.

Palpatine probably remembers she was one of the Senators from the waning days of the Republic who put forth the Petition of the Two Thousand in protest of his then-emergency powers and was a chief ally of Senator Amidala. He probably saw her as a potential problem from the day she signed her name to the petition.

Someone spotted what looks like a Twi'Lek Kalikori, and Indiana Jones' whip in Carbonite?

I did notice the Kalikori looking thing, though thought it looked maybe a little too spindly. Could just be a different, more elaborate style than the Syndulla one.
And yeah, I did wonder about the coil/necklace being a whip as an Indy reference, but I don't think so. Too many coils, thickness is too constant (whips taper), I can't see a handle anywhere, and there's two box-like structures that just don't seem to make any sense for a whip. I could be wrong of course.

It will? Besides that it implies a longish time frame, that surprises me also since that means that it would have to overlap with the events of Rogue One. But we shall see.

Great episode this week.

I'm tickled that Anton Lesser (Chief Superintendent Bright on Endeavour) gets to come aboard Star Wars. He's perfectly cast as Major Partagaz. And as with Rogue One and Solo, the Imperial officer uniform costumes are exquisite.

Is best ep so far but that is a quite a low bar.
It has the pieces to be a good series but It's Not there yet. Do have hope.

So did they say that baseball bat thing was from Earth? Is this the first time Earth has been mentioned in Star Wars?

I don't see the issue with that. Rogue One was the same way.

I think Rogue One was done in a way that kids could still connect with the stakes of the story.

ROTS is not something I have my children watch, or younger people. So, I don't see the whole "not for children" aspect, especially since Rogue One, and Clone Wars both have elements that are decidingly not kid friendly.

I mean Ahsoka beheaded four Mandalorians in a single move on screen in The Clone Wars.

George's decades-old assertion that the Star Wars movies were "for kids" has always been dodgy considering what's in many of them. I mean, Shmi Skywalker is basically raped to death and dies bruised, cut and bludgeoned while tied to a wooden rack inside a Tusken Raider camp so George's idea of "kid's movies" bears some analysis.

One of the most hilariously inappropriate SW things is when Cad Bane literally tortures a captured Jedi TO DEATH on camera.

This is in an animated series. For kids.

So, first off, when I say "for kids" or "for adults," that's not always a matter of "stuff is too scary/violent for children to see." In fact, I think children's media can show quite a lot of violence, provided it's mediated. You can show, say, someone being beheaded in a children's story without it necessarily being inappropriate -- showing a lot of blood and viscera would probably be too much, but of course Star Wars comes with the perfect plot device of lightsabers that cauterize the wound as soon as they make it.

But, when I say Andor feels like it's for adults, I don't mean it's too violent or too dark. What I mean is, so far the stakes of the story feel too abstract for most children to connect to, and the ways in which the story escalates strike me as being too subtle until episode 3 for most children to feel engaged by. This is a story written for grown-ups in the same way that, like, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a story written for grown-ups.

Edited to add: Mind you, I'm not even saying it's bad! It's a well-written, well-made show. I just feel like this is outside the range of what Star Wars ought to be, and I think the story would have been better served had it been written as its own universe, liberated from the remaining tropes of Star Wars.

So if there can be kid focused Star Wars stories why not adult focused Star Wars stories? Seems kind of silly to me to have one but the moment we trend towards the other it's "This isn't was Star Wars was meant to be." To me, Star Wars is very much a sandbox. I would say that the OT actually has three very disparate feeling stories that still hang together as part of the larger narrative. But, I would not say one style of story is more preferable in the Star Wars universe than another.

Also, why not have more variety in the Star Wars universe? Andor seems to be doing what Lucas wanted in terms of creating a more believable, lived in, type universe. Seems like a perfectly acceptable storytelling choice to me. As always, mileage will vary.
