And the Next Cancelled Show is...

If memory serves Warner were behind Fringe right? alongside "Bad Robot" and WB did bend over quite a bit to secure season 4 and 5 of Fringe.

Most likely this was the case, especially for season 5. (I thought the final few episodes of season 4 would have made an ok conclusion, in a hypothetical scenario of season 5 never happening).

More recently, there was also the case of The Mentalist which is another CBS show that is owned by Warner. IIRC, most of the major CBS renewals were made back in March 2014 except for the Mentalist.

Though two months later in May, eventually the Mentalist was renewed for a thirteen episode final season 7.

http://deadline.com/2014/05/mentalist-renewed-seventh-season-last-cbs-728180/

Allegedly Warner even quietly shopped the show around to other networks, in the event of CBS not renewing it.

Interestingly, the show's are continuing until they finish their 13-episode orders, 8 weeks from now. It's kind of odd that they aren't just pulling them from the schedule.

They're still going to perform better than reruns. And viewers require a good bit of promotion and a clear reset point before a new show airs. NBC is still holding onto Welcome to Sweden and Parks and Rec, so those are prime candidates to fill the Thursday slot starting in January.

I would hope they would be willing to do the same in some sort of a 5th season order as POI not getting a proper finish would be GUTTING! to say the least :wtf:

One could examine the cases of The Mentalist and The Good Wife, as a proxy of how much CBS plays hardball against Warner over renewals of older aging shows. (Both were Sunday evening shows in 2013-2014)

Over the 2013-2014 season 6 of The Mentalist, the demo live+SD ratings were hovering around 1.5-1.6 or so.

Over the 2013-2014 season 5 of The Good Wife, the demo live+SD ratings were hovering around a 1.5-1.6 or so.

The Good Wife is owned by CBS, and it was renewed in March 2014 along with many other CBS shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc ... In contrast, The Mentalist took two months longer to be renewed, where Warner even shopped it around to other networks in the meantime.

What exactly went on during the negotiations over the renewal for the Mentalist, will probably never be truly revealed. But the two month delay is probably indicative of CBS playing extreme hardball, with Warner bending over backwards to the point of even shopping the show to another network. Shopping an aging clunker show to another network sounds very much like a sign of weakness.

If something similar happens for the March 2015 renewals of CBS shows, then it's probably a definite sign of CBS playing hardball against Warner.

Wow. I've never watched Mulaney, but I couldn't stand him for half an hour on @Midnight. I can't imagine, based on this, how bad his show is. His mannerisms remind me of Kyle Mooney's parody of a bad comedian on SNL.

When he got eliminated he said "You were the first to eliminate Mulaney this fall, but you probably won't be the last". At least the man is honest. :)

The Princess sing song last week was funny, and the Friends thing this week was amusing.

A woman who only dates comedians is called a HA-HA Ho.

His soon to be exgirlfriend also called Mulaney a "cheap Seinfeld ripoff".

:)

Utopia is bye bye, last episode was Friday.

Don't worry there's still two more Utopias being produced at the moment.

Utopia.

English Spy Conspiracy about destroying the world.

Utopia.

Hilarious Australia Political Satire.

:)

There's a movie coming out in 2016 called Utopia and the Yanks are trying to remake the British Utopia because original thought hurts.

Red Band Society is approaching Mulaney numbers. No way it lasts until January. Forever and Selfie are probably due for cancellation over at ABC. No really stand out shows this year other than NCIS: New Orleans which benefits strongly from NCIS. What a dud for TV.

From the new season, I'm liking Jane the Virgin, Gotham, the Mike Tyson Mysteries, Scorpion, Happyland, Outlander (irony huh?), Z nation (double irony) and Stalker.

Oh, the pilot of Benched was pretty good, Eliza Coup as a disgraced lawyer working as a public defender. A lot more gritty than Bad Judge, but then maybe the pilot was the high point Like how A to Z went downhill immediately? I did not recognize Better off Ted because he looks 20 years older than he should. The make up lady makes it seem like he sleeps in gutters.

Wasn't overly impressed with the McCarthys, BUT months earlier when the show was "spotlighted" in in the previews package, the presenters completely forgot to mention that the male lead (Another one of John Ritter's kids.) is a gay character. Just y'know forgot. It slipped their notice. Didn't seem important... (Or I wasn't paying attention.)

We love Scorpion here in Mayville. I DVR it and we find a time that the whole family can sit down together to watch it.

This may be old news.

ABC expanded the episode orders for a bunch of shows: Modern Family, The Goldbergs, The Middle, Black-ish, Castle, Once Upon A Time, and Grey's Anatomy.

http://deadline.com/2014/10/greys-a...goldbergs-blackish-extra-episodes-abc-859404/

The shows with lower ratings which didn't get expanded episode orders are: Resurrection, Revenge, Nashville, Selfie, Forever, Cristela, Last Man Standing. (Manhattan Love Story is already canceled).

Out of that low rated bunch, I can see Nashville being renewed for season 4 for syndication purposes (ie. to get the magic number of 88-100 episodes).

Resurrection's ratings have been in free fall and presently hovering around 1.4. By the end of season 2, it will only have 21 episodes. If the ratings continue to erode, it wouldn't be surprising to see it be canceled.

Forever, Selfie, and Cristela have not received any full-season orders yet. Wouldn't be surprising to see these low rated shows being canceled. (Forever and Selfie are owned by Warner, while Cristela is owned by Fox).

Last Man Standing is approaching the magic number of 88 episodes for syndication. Most likely it will require Fox to bend over backwards to convince ABC to keep this show on the air. (It's already in the Friday night death slot).

Hard to say what will happen to Revenge. It will already have 88 episodes by the end of season 4. The demo live+SD ratings have been hovering around 1.2 so far.

Most likely the fate of Revenge will be determined by how well the new mid-season ABC shows perform.

Nashville is safe because of MASSIVE tax breaks.

Also the Nashville show is owned by ABC.

ABC Studios probably doesn't have to bend over backwards as much to get their own first-run shows renewed by the ABC television network, especially for syndication purposes.

Forever, Selfie, & Cristella are all good shows.

I really hope that the other cancellations paves the way for at least one of them to survive.
