Spoilers An easy explanation for the klingon ship design in Season 1

Ding. Canon debates are always stupid, because the concept of canon and continuity only matters to a single group, the fans. If the fans decide a story isn't canon and don't discuss it as canon, then effectively in every way that matters, it isn't canon, and you often later on see that reflected by the "official" writers of the show as well. All canon by it's very nature is headcanon and even in Star Trek we've always seen this as yeah something is "Technically canon" but completely ignored by the fandom to the point you even get arguments about it's canon or not (Sybok and STV for example).

I suspect in 5 years time, Discovery will be treated as it's own thing by the fandom not part of the Prime Universe, hell it already is now by much of the fandom, so effectively, when discussing it in those spaces, it will just be an unwritten rule it's not prime canon and thus, while you are in those spaces, it effectively won't be canon, because again, canon only matters to the fans.
No, in 5 years time, there's more likely to be a new series that everyone is complaining violates canon established in Discovery. Fans don't decide the show's canon, the producers do.

That’s just concept art, which usually differs from the final product. I’m referring to what was actually built and produced.
How many of the sets were finished? I've seen the Engineering set and an unfinished corridor.

That guy on the engineering set ain't wearing a TOS costume
There are shots of Ilia in costume, but not on set

Huh? That woman’s uniform practically screams TOS.
Except for the sleeves. the collar, the length and the style. It matches the color, though.

Stuff like this makes me wish I could dip into an alternate reality to see what Phase II would've been like. As a one-off (not an ongoing thing!), I wish CBS would make a Phase II or Phase II-esque episode in '70s style. Maybe if CBS All Access does put together its own "TV" movies, they could do What-Ifs? like this.

1. The Hur'q.
2. A used warship sale at K'Deal's Used Starship Depot and the only models left were really old or unpopular models.
3. Bryan Fuller.

It's one of those three. ;)

I'm not gonna lie, I like that Phase II warp core. It's TOS enough to believe it was installed just a few years after Kirk took command but Movie Era enough to have a metallic texture and more glowing components. It's a good hybrid of 1969 and 1979.

Very cool. I've never seen the test footage before. I've only ever seen a still photo of Persis Khambatta in the TOS uniform.

I wonder if that mesh screen behind the female officer was the Phase II equivalent of the mesh screen in the TOS engine room.

Not sure what's to explain?

The empire had obviously broken down to feudal houses, as such ship building became unfocused and decentralised.
Some of the houses probably even brought non Klingon designs, bet house duros would not have been opposed to buying some old romulan ships and the ferangi and orions probably would of made a quick buck off them.

If the TNG Klingon civil war had not been stopped, it's likely they would of ended up in a similar situation. As it is in TNG and DS9 I get the impression that some houses preferred certain designs and tactics to others IE some preferred fast attack ships like bird of prey and others liked heavier ships. Plus with ships being tied to family's it might be why some designs are over a century old as the ships themselves have sentimental value to a house and so they would rather refit than scrap.

Isn't it justa tad bit easier to chalk it up to the D7 being a Star Fleet designation for a Klingon Starship?

Something which would probably adjust through time based on engine and capability stats.

Well the Klingons called it a D7

Great. Change that to "They have a 2010 budget and have to stream it on the internet" and it fits the same for DSC.

Except TMP makes more sense because it takes place after TOS and shows a technological progression, while DSC shows that TOS will have a technological regression.
