I'm loving this so far!

It seems like it will be the most standalone season in years... I love that. I don't mind a few connections here and there, like how BLACK MIRROR does, except they are REALLY in the background and you have to look. The last few years, it seems like AHS has shoehorned in connections unnecessarily.

There's clear homages to slasher films... HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER have already gotten nods.

This looks to be an awesome and fun season!

It didn't feel quite as authentically 80s as some of these shows have been but it looks like it's trying earnestly to just be entertaining. I love the cheesy aerobics guy and the whole aerobics craze is something that gets underplayed in most of these throwback shows. After watching so many shows with modern sensibilities it seemed almost wrong to just see Mr. Jingles right there from the start without some long mystery attached to his identity.

Yeah, I haven't watched since one of the early seasons or two and it kind of lost me but giving it another shot as I liked the premise here. If it was always meant to be camp I may have misunderstood what they were going for when I watched it initially.

Stevie Nicks has appeared as herself on two different seasons, she’s an actual witch and does a musical number.

This show is best enjoyed by sitting back and enjoying the insanity.

Coven is good, so is Hotel. Murder House and Asylum are good, although Asylum is all over the yard. There's a serial killer, escaped Nazi, Satan, aliens, an evil nun and the Angel of Death. It has one of the best character arcs in it though.

Just watch them all, it has some really wonderful performances by many of the same actors showing how really different each one is. There's certain recurring characters and certain actors will end up playing up to four different and unique characters per season.

ASYLUM was trying to do too many stories at once, but that season, to me, had the absolute creepiest and scary setting of any of the seasons so far. Few things can match the horror of a mental institute from that era.

And it had one of my favorite title sequences... to this day, the final shot of the statue suddenly grinning evilly sends chills down my spine.

My other favorite title sequences are FREAK SHOW and 1984, though they all are quite creative and wonderful. (Between this series and NIP/TUCK, it's clear Ryan Murphy has a fantastic eye for title sequences.)

Well, you guys definitely have me thinking about giving the earlier seasons another shot.

Nobody's a bigger fan of ASYLUM than I am. (Lange was fantastic.) I just can't get behind tributes or homages to slasher films unless they're of PSYCHO quality. (I never thought HALLOWEEN or CHAINSAW were particularly inventive.) Kevin Williamson's already milked that tactic to death anyhow.
Williamson did a great job bringing a 90s sensibility to the 80s genre movies. It seems like AHS is trying to do more of a deep dive into the 80s movies but it might've made more buzz if they had did it a couple of years earlier and been at the front of the recent 80s revival.

Well I hope the story will soon segue from its 'expected' slasher format into something scary but with less gratuitous violence.

I thoroughly enjoyed all AHS incarnations esp Hotel and Murder House and I will stick this one out.

The thing is; I have never been able to watch a complete slasher movie because they scare me too much.

But that is what they are supose to do. As a kid I once watched Friday the 13 hiding behind a couch with my sister laughing at me and trying to scare me. Jason

Ok. so Rita the nurse isn't the real Rita the nurse and she helped Mr. Jangles with his escape because hse is studying serial killers. And Montana is working with the Night Stalker. Crazy. And of course the first guy to die (among the camp people) is the African American guy. This is hitting all the tropes this season.

I think we are going to see some twists. Like the black guy coming back as a ghost like that other guy. He could be killed over and over or end up the hero who kills the bad guys. Jason
