Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasma) ?

Seriously, I do not own an LCD or Plasma TV. I do not have an HD capable TV. I'm not even subscribed to digital TV. Yep, I still have good ole Analog Cable TV (70+ channels though mind you.) No DVR either.

I use a 27" "flatscreen" CRT TV, 4:3 aspect ratio. Am I the only one left?

Sure, I want HD, I want a large widescreen LCD TV, but the prices just aren't there yet for me. Then, I would have to purchase digital TV and HD channels to boot if I really want the best from it, creating a need for more money expenses.

I guess I do want it, but man, it will be pricey for me. Anyone wanna loan me some money so I can get a nice LCD HDTV?

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Bah, I'm still using CRT televisions in my house and I'll continue to do so until they die.

So you're not alone.

If it brings you comfort, you're probably much more financially responsible than most Americans.

I would argue that the need to buy a big screen HD TV is one of the major contributing factors in the credit crisis.

The biggest tv I have in 19", and I bought it when I was pregnant.

Need I remind anyone that my son is 10?

I'm still using a CRT monitor and an old (but sizeable) Sony Trinitron TV. No HD or digital TV for me (I need a new arial before I can pick up a digital signal), but I'm happy with the quality of the pictures I get. DVD's look great on my Sony.

:D

My TV is also a 19 incher, bought in 1994. Toshiba makes a damn good remote: still works perfectly! Only flatscreen I've got is on my laptop.

Yeah, I am. 36" Sony widescreen CRT (about 6 years old now I think). No need to change, so I haven't. I'll probably get a new flatscreen TV if/when I move house, simply to avoid lugging the monster CRT to a new place!

I do have a freeview box for regular digital TV, but no cable/satellite or HDTV.

I don't really watch much TV anyway; I tend to use it for DVDs more often.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

I used to have a 21" CRT but when I had my Xbox 360 for about a year I went ahead and upgraded to a 19" Samsung HD LCD. It's far easier on the eyes and looks a hell ofa lot better.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

27" CRT at around 70 pounds.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

You're not alone at all! I've had my Philips 27" Flatscreen CRT for about 5 years now. I recently bought a Samsung HDTV digital receiver so that it picks up HD over the air. The TV works perfectly and I don't have the money to buy a new one.

I just can't see myself buying a plasma/LCD TV until my current TV dies. I can't even sell it since it will be obsolete in February!

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

I have several DVD players and Digital TV but I've avoided getting a flatscreen LCD TV as I prefer my old-fashioned 3-dimension TV set.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

I don't even have a flatscreen anything. It's still a bit ol 50 lb box monster. For some reason the remote sensor went out but we could get a nice simple replacement even if we wanted to.

No one sells a cheap tv anymore.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

Nope. Not alone at all. I'm still using my $200 20 inch Samsung that I bought in the spring of '96.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

22" LCD Flat Panel Acer Monitor
22" LCD Flat Panel AOC HDTV.

Both purchased for much less than advertised.

I still have a 30 inch "flatscreen" CRT Hitachi. Still gives a pretty good picture. I am happy with the current prices for plasmas and LCDs but will wait until I am no longer renting and live in my own home before buying one. I want one that matches my own decor.

I saw a 32" LCD for $399 the other day. How much better do the prices have to be?

I waited 12 years before upgrading my 27" CRT. I got this 37" LCD in Dec:

And a few months ago I got a 46".

^ What the wise man said. We have 2 LCD monitors for our computers and that's it. I shall wait till the CRT tv's die or the price comes down a lot. :)

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

I still only have a CRT tv, tho both desktops in my house have 19" LCD screens, I'm not even sure they still make CRT monitors. The tv on the other hand will stay until it breaks or I have several grand spare to buy a decent-sized LCD, whichever comes first.

Re: Am I the only one left without an HDTV or flatscreen (LCD or Plasm

The TV is old school, around 26". About the only thing I use it for is watching Trek DVDs.

Got a 21" CRT monitor for $70 from a used computer parts place around 6 years ago. ATI Catalyst will run HDTV modes on it, just don't have a HD drive in the PC. Brutally heavy. Must have cost a mint in its day, has individual inputs for R, G, and B in addition to VGA. Runs up to around 1280x1024 at 95hz and will crank out much higher resolutions if you don't mind a drop in the refresh.

For an LCD TV 32" isn't that big, especially in a living room when your couch is 9 feet from the TV. For me, I would need at least a 37" at the minimum, and they are still pricy. Also, when looking at an LCD quality matters, I would want one with a good contrast ratio and such, usually the cheap ones don't have a good image quality. If I were to get one, I'd get a good one like Philips, or Sharp or Samsung. The new Sharp Aquos series for example has a great image quality, and Philips are pretty much at the top for the best image quality, but pricey.
