Alternate versions of characters you prefer to the "real" one

It just now occurred to me that while I do like Janeway, many of my favorite moments come from when she isn't quite herself: "Living Witness," "The Killing Game," and "Bride of Chaotica." Basically, I like when Mulgrew is playing someone a bit more sketchy and over the top than the usual Janeway.

Kes, I strongly prefer as a villain, in "Warlord" and "Fury."

As for Chakotay, I like him, but I like his more mutinous versions better ("Worst Case Scenario," "Repression.")

On that note, I know many people preferred the darker, more cynical Harry Kim in "Timeless" to the usual ensign. And I'm sure there are people who like Seven better as a full drone.

What are some alternate versions of canon characters from "Voyager" that you sometimes prefer to the character's usual personality? (First person to answer "I like [insert character I dislike] best in the episode where he/she is dead!" loses.)

Seska was best as a sassy, bitchy Bajoran to when she went supervillain.

Tom Paris when he was showing up late for work and being insubordinate, before they ruined it with "it was all a plot to flush out whateverhisnamewas"

Warlord Kes was amazing. Combine it with the stuff she can do in other episodes and you have a pyrokinetic psychopath on board. That show would have been amazing.

I'm sensing a pattern, here. I want flawed characters struggling against themselves as much as the Anomaly of the Week™

Well, you know all how much I like Captain Kathryn Janeway's character but I must admit that I also had a thing for Kathryn Janeway, the woman, in "Workforce".
-> moving, perky, generous, malicious. In short, a facet of the character that we might have liked to see more often but that the Starfleet captain carefully hid deep even if
occasionally, a malice strand, a touch of humor, a touch of happy madness reappeared at the corner of a situation or remark (often because of Tom Paris, the Doctor, Tuvok, Neelix or Seven).

Anyway, it was great to meet this Janeway! :techman:

Chakotay, when he handled insubordination the "Maquis way."

I wish he would've done that more, and randomly, like you never knew when Chakotay would just pop someone in the face for mouthing off.

There was another moment I like, when Chakotay and Paris are on the Year of Hell ship, and Paris says something about "Look around, Chakotay. You can't give me orders." and Chakotay says "We either stick to the chain of command, or we settle our differences the old fashion way."
Paris shut up.

Chakotay's a lover and a fighter.

"Living Witness" Janeway was riveting and genuinely scary. You could tell the rest of the cast was having a blast as her thuggish crew (though one wonders how Chakotay and Paris would have ever gotten anything done, given that their first impulse in disagreement is to brawl!), but Janeway was the best.

I also liked the adult Naomi and Icheb in "Shattered," valiantly doing their best to protect the ship that had been their home for so long.

Isn't that a big problem with Klingons, the Mirror Universe and most of Trek's warlike species anyway? None of them would get as far as deep space the way they act.

ADULTERESS [on viewscreen]: You're a woman. You saw my husband with your own eyes. Overweight, depressed. You would have left him too, especially if you had met someone as exciting as Gar.
JANEWAY: Yes, he's very exciting.
ADULTERESS [on viewscreen]: That's why you're looking for him, isn't it? You want him for yourself.
JANEWAY: I assure you, I have no romantic interest in him whatsoever.
ADULTERESS [on viewscreen]: Why? Not good enough for you?
JANEWAY: No, it's not that, it's just that
(Janeway takes Tuvok's hand.)
JANEWAY: I already have a man.

So it loses something in translation  But it was cute moment Janeway pretending Tuvok and her were an item.

Similar 'pretend' moment from Live Fast And Prosper where Janeway and Tuvok try to fool Darla...

JANEWAY: Tell her about your research, Mister Tuvok.
TUVOK: I beg your pardon, Captain?
JANEWAY: On Telsian law. I think it's only fair that we let our guest know what to expect.
TUVOK: The Telsian criminal justice system is rather barbaric.
JANEWAY: Tell her about the prisons.
TUVOK: Barely habitable. Inmates often die of malnutrition before they are brought to trial. Torture is commonplace, as is disease, including several incurable forms of psoriasis.

Tuvok and Neelix as Tuvix. Neelix is at times almost as insufferable as Q and that's saying something.

Funny scene. But, I always wished she had instead just gestured around the bridge and said "I already have plenty of men."

How about Tuvix! He could have been just if not more interesting than Neelix AND Tuvok.

I also liked the idea in "Projections" were the EMH is actually Doctor Zimmerman and Voyager is just some program he is working on in a holodeck and his best friend is Barclay and he is married to a human version of Kes. They naturally went with this idea in a slightly different way, many years later in "Lifeline."

Is it just me? Tuvix was more than a little creepy.
