Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

"What I remember about the rise of the Empire is… is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word." -501st Journal

:) Those 501st Journals were some strong additions to the lore/story back then.

The first canonical appearance of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the last.

^A handy illustration of how characters that are killed off in their first appearance are neither inherently insignificant or forgettable.

Does anyone else find it weird that Black Spire Outpost, on the remote frontier planet of Batuu (also known as Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland/Disneyworld) hasn't yet been featured in any live-action series? The first two seasons of Mando especially were episodic adventures of the week, starring a bounty hunter who lives life on the edge, so how the heck did he not even briefly visit the Outpost, which is supposed to be a "canon" location of the universe fans going to the Disney parks can actually visit?

I mean, I get that filming at either Galaxy's Edge would be tricky - you wouldn't want to shut down the area even for a day, especially in its early years, and geography designed for crowds of slow-moving tourists won't necessarily look great in a widescreen composition, much less an action sequence. But they could always shoot in the volume and fudge the geography, and, thanks to animatronics, they could have Mando share a crucial scene with an alien in a shop that people at Galaxy's Edge could then go visit.

Not only did they not do this, however, Batuu doesn't even appear in one of their main animated shows like The Bad Batch. TV-wise, only Young Jedi Adventures has featured it at all. I wouldn't think it sensible to have every show set an episode or even important scene on Batuu, but to not see the place at all strikes me as even less sensible. What's the point of making a location "canon" if nothing canonically happens there?

Not really, no.

I would imagine they would keep it separate to avoid any conflict of what stories or items they want to show there. Any more than I find it odd that the Starspeeder from Star Tours never showed up in the productions.

I wouldn't mind seeing Batuu used with heretofore-unseen locations, but I totally understand why Disney might want to keep theme park-specific things out of live action streaming productions. That Starspeeder has never surfaced in the modern Disney+ content so the refusal to reach into the theme park bag has precedence.

Same. I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy. The design language is great, and having some of those props or gifty type items would be a neat overlap.

But, it's also way too "wink-wink" for me. Like, close to "Cat in the Hat" film and the Cat holding up a Universal Studios day pass during the film. It's borderline too far to me.

Totally agree on Huyang.

The two series shot at roughly the same time. Huyang served in the Jedi Temple for at least 1,000 years. The physical Huyang prop asset was available or at bare minimum he could have been digitally inserted into the background talking to or instructing Padawans. Him not being seen at all in The Acolyte kinda sucked.

Star Tours was never supposed to be canon, though. whereas Batuu and the Halcyon (Galactic Starcruiser) were/are.

They were planning for more than one season, though, so maybe they would have had Huyang show up later.

Not to split hairs, but he said he was on that ship* for 1000 years (hence the Old Republic Jedi crest lifted straight from SWTOR on the doors). Also, his job was specifically instructing younglings how to build their first lightsaber following their completion of a Gathering. Nothing about that really fits in organically with what was going on in 'The Acolyte', so they'd either have to contrive some excuse to jam him into an episode somewhere, or just having him as some random background cameo.

As cool as it might have been; I'd honestly prefer if they saved stuff like that for when it matters.

* It's been stated in at least one reference book that he's been around for waaaay long than just that. Long enough that he could theoretically show up in Mangold's 'Dawn of the Jedi' movie.

I for one would not shed a tear if that particular reference were to be overruled in the future. I'm well aware that unbelievably ancient droids have been a thing in SW for over 40 years but I think dating back to the beginning of the Old Old Republic is a bit much!

A thousand years I'm fine and cool with. THAT long, though? Sheesh, I know technology doesn't change much in the Star Wars universe but that would be taking things to a silly extreme.
