Honestly, the more I think about it, it could turn out to be something fun but certainly not canonical for either universe.
It’s probably not canon for star wars, but the brief says the marvel part specifically takes place in Earth-616
So did Star Trek and the X-Men and the Avengers with the Transformers, and yet...
While I admit I don’t see much point in it if (as indicated) it’s basically just the events of ANH transposed to Marvel Earth for some reason, if there was ever a non-SW setting that Darth Vader would fit right into, Marvel Comics is it. I’m curious why you see this as a different category from Star Trek/X-Men?
(Not that I’m particularly pulling for this either, especially since I recently finally managed to kick the Marvel/DC habit after a good forty-plus years.)

Oh. Marvel routinely goes to other galaxies, though; or rather, they and DC have had a tendency to conflate “space” as one big thing. In the 90s, I'd have eaten a Star Wars/Marvel crossover up. Or the Star Wars/DC crossover that Alex Ross did some concept art for.
Now? Maybe I'll buy the trade, if reviews are good.
I'd be more interested in a Star Wars/Aliens (what if, like the ysalamiri, Xenomorphs are invisible to the Force?) or a Star Wars/Predator crossover.
Just because we're not interested in this specific project doesn't mean we're against fun.
As someone who loves these kind of crossovers, I could not be more excited for this. Although I am a little disappointed that it's going to be a retelling of A New Hope on Earth 616, I was hoping for something totally new for both sides of the crossover, but I'm still excited to see how they do it.
I am a little surprised they picked Kevin Smith as the writer for this, I would have expected to go with someone who had more experience writing for both Star Wars and Marvel.

I do think both would fit surprisingly well.
Meanwhile, the Bleeding Cool comments page is full of the predictable sight-unseen vitriol. I mean, I don’t expect much either, but hey, more power to them. If it turns out to actually be good, so much the better.
